I see a lot of talented guys sitting and waiting for a single big fight at JMW (Andrade, Jermall, Lara and even Canelo). They do that to stay near the big money at welterweight and now that the Floyd and Pacman era is fading you'll see these guys move up to middleweight to be near the big Canelo-GGG money. Jermall has already made the move up. Another benefit of the advanced technology is that boxers can now easily look to have a 20+ year careers fighting maybe twice a year. Back then 80's/90's great boxers might have a 15 year career or less like SRL and Hagler.

I maintain that it is impossible to compare generations of boxing especially when you factor in all the advancements in technology, length of careers and fighting frequency. If the PBC becomes the new norm and guys fight maybe once a year then it will be even more difficult to compare in the future.

We're left only with the eye test.
We know GGG, Canelo, Andrade, Jermall, Lara, Jacobs, Eubanks, Sanders should all fight each other but in this day and age we'll have to wait years for many of these fights. In the 80's/90's they wanted to prove they were the best now they just do it for the money. Hard to argue against boxers getting smarter.

Another thing we have to always keep in mind is that it's natural to always consider the past better than the future. Right or wrong that's the norm. Music, sports, literature, technology, movies, etc. Old timers always love the past better.

you casual fans really are clueless

kid, there is only one criteria when measuring greatness, and it has NOTHING to do with activity

this is like teaching kindergarten kids how to tie their shoe

WHO did he beat, with consideration given to WHEN/HOW ?

beating 20 bums doesn't mean shht

If he were the WBO JMW champion he would be preparing to defend his title against #1 WBO JMW contender Andrade? He's been bullying JMW's for a long time it's time for him to step up and try to regain the WBC middleweight from a true middleweight who is probably smaller than him. Too many weight games from Con-nelo.

I never thought he would run from anybody but I agree that building the GGG fight is a smart move. So I give him and GBP credit for that. If he would just come out and say it; "I'm not running, I'm just building the fight. The 155 weight was a silly excuse from mean, the flat fee was another excuse from me" but nobody wants honesty. We all prefer talking trash.

giving yourself a 1lb advantage that will likely benefit you more than it will benefit your JMW opponent..... makes you a b1tch..... but it does not magically turn you into a middleweight..... YOU DUMBASS

get a grip and use some common-sense

Fair post. I give exceptional talents a fair shake though. I think that pre heavyweight Jones Jr would have been top dog or near the top in any era.

I agree 100% there are very few guys like Roy Jones Jr. He's more like the old school guys. He fought everybody whenever.

Like Roy, it's nice when the A side is also the side that wants to fight the best but its getting harder and harder to find those type of guys. GGG might be a guy like that but since he's not Mexican or American he doesn't have the fan base to make him the A side, so we'll probably never know for sure.

..... then, which of the following facts are incorrect, and why ?

FACT: if you think that fighting a JMW opponent 1lb over the JMW limit suddenly turns you into a middleweight, then you are a fool

FACT: Canelo has never fought A middleweight
FACT: Canelo has never fought AT middleweight
Do you know how weight limits work? Once he's at 155 he's not a JW anymore. He's past the limit. But the limit for middle weight is 160. So that means anywhere between 155-160 is middleweight. So two out of those three "facts" are wrong.

              that is absolute rubbish

I have explained to you that boxing is not a maths game

              on what planet does 1lb = 1 division ?

you may have little understanding about weight, but you could use some common-sense

when Canelo made 154 for Smith, he made you "Canelo is a middleweight because it suits my cool story bro" clowns, look like utter fools

              the following facts remain.....

FACT: Canelo has never fought A middleweight
FACT: Canelo has never fought AT middleweight
FACT: if you think that fighting a JMW opponent 1lb over the JMW limit suddenly turns you into a middleweight, then you are a fool

using your logic in bold..... Brook was a welter, then he became a middleweight, then he became a welter again..... but anyone with an ounce of common-sense knows that Brook simply fought above his weight

using your logic in bold..... Canelo is now a SMW, for fighting at 164.5

using your logic in bold..... Marquez was a welter when he fought Mayweather

get a clue, boxing is not a maths game

I feel like we're gonna see this fight sooner than later. Even Oscar and Canelo know they can't ride the wave for as long as both Manny and Floyd did where they could do big business without having to fight one another for year. Canelo doesn't hold that type of star power and they know while GGG isn't a huge commercial success by himself, them fighting one another is a borderline commercial fight that will make each career paydays. Seeing as Loeffler is saying a deal is close and they're giving Canelo and team A side treatment, the only thing I feel that stops this is either guy losing their upcoming fights.

Unfortunately for GGG, Julio will get his hands on Canelo before and will spoil the party. Canelo aint getting past Junior.
