Anyone who brings up Ward whenever it's an article about GGG is just showing ignorance. If they were true boxing fans, they would know all about the situation on either side. Sure, that bout was a possibility. But both fighters were being pulled in different directions. And in any case, GGG didn't force Ward to sign that contract with HBO. As soon as Ward signed a deal to fight at 175, he all but pretty much shelved the fight for a year or 2. That's on Ward. If he truly, verily wanted the GGG fight, he could have stayed at 168 & cleaned the rest of it out. Three fights at 168 against Dirrell, Bute, then DeGale...that's finishing off that weight class. To many observers, it appears Ward simply can't make 168 anymore. I mean, even before he signed the HBO deal, he fought at 172...he was already on his way to 175. Ward started the whole mess when he made the decisions he made. Sure, that's a challenge to go after Kovalev...but where's the challenge in all the tune-ups before him? A GGG/Ward bout can still happen...maybe a year from now...but, like Loeffler said, we just don't know what weight Ward wants it at. If GGG does indeed move up to 168 (or is willing to come up to 168 for that bout), then we'd also need proof that Ward can make that weight as well. I don't think he does. So, in essence, all the GGG critics insisting GGG move up & fight Ward at 168 seems like a dead end when you consider that Ward will probably demand the fight at 175...basically, no matter what GGG does, Ward will try to shift the blame to make it appear that it's all GGG's fault. When will everyone understand that? And when will the fanboys understand that repeating Ward's lame excuses only amplifies their ignorance?
