In the last twenty years there's been way too much about winning titles at multiple weight classes. It's just too easy to do with for belts in 17 weight classes..
Did I want to see Ward vs GGG?? Yes. Didn't happen. Do I think GGG was scared? Ridiculous!! But somebody somewhere on his team thought the risk was too high and didn't want to chance him getting beat by a skilled fighter. They wanted to cash in first. I get it.......I think Ward wins in a tough fight.
Canelo, on the other hand, has had two hugely successful ppv shows. He is 1-1 but could easily be 0-2. So he's got his millions and not many guys left at 154..... though there are guys I believe could beat him there.
At 155+, only one fight matters. If Canelo beats Khan, as he should and doesn't fight GGG? Shoe will be on the other foot but using one ppv outting by GGG against a quite unknown fighter isn't exactly fair and doesn't buy him a pass imo. Canelo needed Floyd and Cotto to do the numbers he did.
Canelo has the youth to drop the extra pounds but averages a fight night weight higher than GGG. And there is NOTHING wrong with staying at one weight. Hagler, Monzon, two of the best MW ever did just that.
GGG is much better than he gets credit for. He has excellent footwork, defense in a very similar style to Duran, good head movement, etc. And if given the chance at the new catch weight king (6 in a row now?), he will wreck him. I don't see a single thing Canelo does better. And if Oscar is being honest, he doesn't either which is why they'll avoid that fight again.......and hopefully it will hit them where it hurts in Sept when he's fighting another smaller guy and they do 200k buys or less. Because there isn't anyone active from 154-160 that will bring the high numbers they now expect..... except GGG.
Canelo is a full MW. He has the lineal title. Avoiding that fight now? There's no excuse if he's as good as they claim him to be.
If it doesn't happen this time, the real reason don't have anything to do with this "dollars makes sense" BS......it will be because they know he can't beat GGG. And very likely would be KO #23 in a row.
It's really that simple.......Last edited by ssc73; 04-25-2016, 05:19 AM.

Take off Froch & Dawson though and Ward's resume has nothing on GGG's. That's only two guys, so where are all the KOs?

3. Ggg never cleaned out his division. Ward did long ago, kinda. Ggg has never even been #1 in major rankings.
4. Ggg is mando for the biggest fight in boxing. Ward and Kovalev got **** for prospects
Re 3, what's this sites position, if Canelo gets stripped for ducking the mando? Is he still #1 at MW?
