now as i've outlined the key points in this negotiations it shows that duva wanted the fight EXCLUSIVELY on hbo which would leave out showtime completely and that wont happen bc showtime promotes stevenson and so the blame need be LAID AT THE FEET OF HBO AND KATHY DUVA NO ONE ELSE
    end of discussion.

Kovalev and Stevenson were both HBO fighters at the time of the doubleheader in Quebec City

Kovalev vs Sillakh and Stevenson vs Bellew

This was supposed to be a buildup for their fight, but after these fights Stevenson added Al Haymon as a Manager and jumped ship to Showtime.

Hopkins went into negotiations with Stevenson but ended up fighting Kovalev

That's a second big fight for Stevenson that failed to come to fruition.

Outside of the Dawson win, Stevenson hasn't had any big fights at all. Talk about big fights but it all ends at the negotiating table.

These two just need to **** and get it over with at this point. This back and forth is getting really old.

I agree. The big fights need to happen. Things get more interesting with Andre Ward at 175 as well.

He beat Fonfara, who is ranked 2nd behind Kov in the division. Stevenson beat Dawson and Fonfara, Kov beat Bhop and Pascal.

Yea, there's not a great deal between their resume's really.

Kovalev's resume is being inflated somewhat.

The main reason why I hold Kovalev over Stevenson is his style and the manner of his wins...... but yea, Stevenson can certainly body opponents as well.

I still have that close to a 50/50 fight, maybe 55/45 Kovalev.

They were negotiating a unification with Stevenson on Showtime but Stevenson's side dragged out the negotiations so that Hopkins would have to drop the IBF belt and another Haymon guy (Thomas Williams) could fight Mohammedi for the vacant belt. Hopkins signed a contract to fight Kovalev on the last possible day before vacating meaning Kovalev had to sign a contract even with a fight upcoming.
                So I'm imagining things?

Kathy Duva has said over and over again the reason they dropped the lawsuit against Golden Boy is because Hopkins agreed to the fight.

Just bc a lawsuit was dropped due to him signing the fight doesn't mean that was the reason they did it. This article . boxing insider .com/ headlines /main-events-longer-suing-haymon-showtime-golden-boy/) basically says that Hopkins turned on Haymon and took the fight with Kovalev for the reasons I mentioned. In doing so, it mended a relationship with HBO and Duva.

Showtime promotes Stevenson? No, that's Gym, Showtime doesn't promote anyone lol. They don't even have him under exclusive contract like Kov with HBO. His last fight was on Spike, with poor ratings again

Fonfara was meant to be a walkover though, with last TV outing a great struggle vs washed up Campillo on ESPN
