Oscar at this time was MUCH bigger star then GGG and had already headlined his own PPV's and was a huge draw in boxing. Oscar was a Olympic Gold Winner and 2 division world champ and had just CLEANED out the entire 135 division and was on EVERYONE's top 10 P4P lists. But Chavez was the bigger star so Oscar had to give in to all his demands or not fight so he did.

11 years later the roles were reversed and Floyd had to agree to all Oscar's demands. Had to move up an entire weight class and fight at the weight Oscar wanted. Had to agree to 30% of the total purse and 70% going to Oscar despite Floyd being favored and the number 1 P4P fighter in the world and a much bigger draw then GGG is right now. Floyd had already won titles in 4 weight classes and CLEANED out at least 2 of them. Most guys who fought Floyd and Oscar when they were the cash cows got no more then 10% and that includes Canelo when he fought Floyd. And both those guys had to EARN their spot by taking less against more popular superstars. GGG doesn't have HALF the resume as either Oscar or Floyd and doesn't draw fans like either guys did before they got the mega fight but idiots think he should get paid 40% to fight Canelo or not budge off his weight? Just stop and come back to reality.
This is a different situation than any of those you are talking about, because GGG is Canelo's mandatory challenger and the interim WBC belt holder. That means he is entitled to a 45/55 split if the fight goes to a purse bid.

It won't go to a purse bid because Canelo would vacate the title rather than fight GGG at 160 for a split like that. But Canelo doesn't want to vacate. It would be very bad for his image and popularity.

So GGG does have some leverage here. If Oscar wants him to negotiate and make the fight, rather than pick up a vacated title, he's going to have to offer Golovkin a bit more than 10%, and he knows it.

80/20 @160 sounds fair to me.

If there's gonna be a CW 60-40 seems cool to me.

GGG needs that fight so much more than Canelo, **** He could even fight him for free, the paydays after the fight will make him the PPV star of this generation.

the only people "talking 97k" are ignorant haters like yourself. People with a higher than 7th grade education use the reputable 150k number.

Either number you want to use let's not pretend that David Lemieux was not responsible for a lot of those guys.

who friggin cares one way or the other?? Is Canelo breaking you off a taste or something? I swear it seems like some of you clowns cant wait for this fight to implode. Like somehow your pathetic life will be made better if GGG doesnt get the Canelo fight. You are like little schoolgirls going tee hee hee everytime some ridiculous demand gets talked about that would likely kill the fight.

"but but but canelo a-side boss ggg gotta lick his sack tee hee hee"

            bunch of clowns..........

Obviously someone cared enough to bring up the fact that Canelo can't get all the credit for his PPV buys. I simply rebutted that Golovkin can't get all the credit for his meager PPV buys either.

If you don't want to be part of that discussion then don't stick your nose in. It shouldn't concern you.

Except it's not the same thing. Cotto and Canelo are equally big stars in boxing and both contributed to that event. Golovkin is clearly a bigger name than Lemieux which is why he headlined multiple HBO cards while Lemieux was fighting on fox sports. You're arguing just to argue. The amount of buys Lemieux brought to the table were paltry. Barely anybody cares about boxing up here. To add to that, I think those ppv numbers only reflect american buys.

So your contention is that Lemieux doesn't have a big fan base in Canada and that none of them purchased the ppv?

He does in certain areas of Quebec. The rest of the country doesn't give a **** about him or boxing. Not one bar in Toronto had this fight. Aside from that my understanding is that ppv numbers only reflect buys in America.
