So quite rightly, GGG should expect the fight to take place at the normal 160 pound middleweight limit.

The 164 catchweight with Ward involves two men in separate weight classes without any concern for belts at 160 or 168.
Belts don't give relevance to fans ,
rather , fans give relevance to belts , but shouldn't . If u beat the best , your marketability and value will skyrocket , but if u merely hold championship or even unified belts in a luke warm division , nobody gives a hoot .

      Looks like I am confused.

I thought you were picking Canelo, then we are in agreement that the GGG and Cotto thing isnt happening anyways.

Its a good thing the best supposedly came into the middle weight division. ]

      Canelo is going down.

I bet Andrade and Lara will come up to MW after GGG unifies. That will get all fighters coming his way.

Does it say these are MW fights?

He may fight them at below, but what is the point, it is not like he wont be the same weight when they rehydrate.

Its actually pointless. And it pisses fans off.
That might be the case with Canelo who rehydrates to around 170lbs like GGG but it's not pointless vs Cotto who barely makes 160lbs when he rehydrates. I personally would prefer they fought GGG at the full limit with a rehydrating clause of a 163lb max fight night. That being said IMO what ever they agree to during negotiations is cool with me. I just want to see the best fight the best.

I wouldn't rule out a catchweight entirely. Money talks. It's easy to say no now but when negotiations are taking place, and say for example Cotto beats Canelo and says he'll fight GGG at 157 or no fight and he drops the title and offers a lil more money, maybe that changes their position.

Cotto doesnt get that? He'd have them rehydrated lower than what Lara and Andrade fight at, and they are Jr.MW.

Why should he have the MW belts if he thinks he is too small to fight MW?

I just dont understand why people think that is ok.

It would be like GGG going to 168, fight some guy on one leg to win the SMW Lineal Title, and then demanding Ward come down 160 and fight for that SMW belt.

I don't think team GGG is taking advice from low level NSB posters on marketability.

I agree, I don't know if they haggle over three pounds. But five pounds, that may be a bridge too far.

And if Cotto wants to pay ten million more to have him lighter, then maybe.

But GGG would likely just rehydrate up to 170 on fight day anyways.

Especially since K2 is looked at many as one hell of a promoting team.

They've done one hell of a job with this guy.

Cmon man, Cotto was 160 fight night vs Urkal 8 years ago. You're saying he hasn't grown a bit? Shame he doesn't do same day weighin, real shame

If Cotto wins, or if Canelo wins, either one of them will have more leverage during negotiations than GGG. So if they want a catchweight, they will certainly get it. Just maybe not 155, but more like 157 or 158 max.
