It’s doubtful that a fight between Golovkin and Ward can happen any time soon though, because Golovkin is waiting to get (for instance) the winner of the November fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. Golovkin also is interested in fighting former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, IBF champion David Lemieux and WBO champ Andy Lee. Those are all arguably bigger fights than Golovkin vs. Ward. Lemieux has a huge following in Canada, and Lee is really popular in Ireland. Ward isn’t a huge casual star in the United States. He’s got a hard core fanbase (of course), but he’s not at the actual level of those cited above even though he’s unbeaten and is a pound-for-pound top ranked fighter....

Actually Ward is the one to gain a lot from a hype or a fight against Golovkin right now -- because Ward is likely to win such a fight...

Everyone you mentioned besides froch who don't know if want to retire or not have fights lined up in fall so Triple G suppose to take his 34th straight stay busy fight come on now enough is enough with him and team bs

Andre Ward is a promoter's worst nightmare. Here we have a rising star who is knocking fighters out and has a cult-like following and you want him to face a highly skilled, bigger fighter that isn't a superstar. Not over Loeffler's dead body. He'll do his best to make sure this fight doesn't happen right now.

It's ok to fight Froch and Chavez at 168 but not Ward. Anyone who thinks Ward should go down to 164 is out of their mind. As a fan of a fighter, you should want him to fight the best without bogus stipulations.

Anyone that thinks this isn't a fair offer is out of their mind. What A side ever offers the 50/50 split. And WARD is no A side. He is a diva.

why can ward fight at 160 and not 164? please explain. you opened up the duck-gates so now you have to explain yourself. and i'm sorry but "he was not serious" is not a very good defense of ward's position since he said twice he would fight floyd at 160.

because floyd fights at welterweight and ward fights at super middleweight. Thats 147 & 168 just in case you didn't know. That was also said years ago. How can you honestly compare that situation with GGG willing to fight the bigger Froch & Chavez jr at 168 but with Ward it has to be 164?

How much money did Golovkin bring in at the gate for his fight at The Forum in LA against Willie Monroe Jr, and how much money did Ward bring in at the gate for his fight at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Because that's the only real objective metric to measure things by at this point (Ward took home a far larger check for his fight, both TV deals were from opposite spectra, etc).

If Golovkin did $1m at the Forum (haven't been able to find the gate information for Ward's last fight, but the announced attendance was over 9,100 people and, comparing to the last fight at Oracle, he likely ended up selling 8,000 tickets), he's got something to stand on; Ward's last gate in Oakland was just over $700k, I couldn't find how those tickets were priced (likely at/lower than what the Ward-Smith tickets were priced).

Till then, such talk is just bluster.
