Hopefully it works because it is good for boxing, I live in the UK so it sucks that we don't have something similar.

    It's 50/50 imo.

It will either turn out to be a huge success and rejuvenate boxing or it will be a complete failure and lose huge amounts of money.

I hope it succeeds but I worry it won't. For example someone pointed out (I believe it was the user "Butler") that Arum would have done a similar thing if it was viable. Also boxing is a niche sport doesn't get much attention, no one watches boxing anymore, anyone I speak to when I mention boxing 90% don't have a clue and aren't even casuals, I suspect the same is true in the USA.

I'm enjoying more boxing on TV. I still have cable with all the premium subscriptions, so regardless I'm watching.

What I don't like is the catch weights, and the poor matchmaking on the cbs/Nbc cards. Spike and soon the FNF cards I understand since they don't get close the audience that the big 4 do.

Call me a hater or whatever but when they spend that much $$$$ on a mismatch rather than using that for a better opponent, don't try and pump sunshine about how Al saving boxing.. He may want to match those fighters better, but those same fighters he protected will now rather make bigger paydays fighting Salka or smaller fighters...

        Al made this possible

Very few of my friends care about boxing. Sure, there are a couple who drop over to watch a fight if I organize something, but it's more for the beer and the wings than for the fight. Most have no idea who any of the fighters are. I watched one PBC card with a couple of friends who had the same reaction to it as I did - boring and dull, no excitement and no energy. They wondered why there was no one in the ring at the beginning or end of the fight and one asked me if this was amateur boxing due to the lack of entourage in the ring.

That is my biggest problem with the PBC shows, they are boring. They are dull. They have nothing in common with the excitement I felt as a kid and young adult watching the great fights on television. It doesn't take much to bring some action to the broadcast, won't cost much to have a ring announcer and to allow the fighters to have their entourage with them and display the titles they worked their entire career to win, proudly around their waist or over their shoulder.

If you have SRL doing commentary, then get him in the ring after the fight to do the interview!

          DULL. DULL. DULL.

            Well put brother..
I don't post here much.. More of a lurker but I felt compelled to post..

Yea, we don't like Haymon, but I get excited every time a PBC fight approaches..

When was the last time we had boxing on a weekly basis!?
            This is awesome!

The ring entrance is a bit tacky, and some of the commentary needs improvement but, once the kinks are worked out it can be a success.

Its free, and its BOXING.. The sport we love! Enjoy the show..
This should be the best card yet (April 11)...

These are not "real" fans so just ignore them. Remember, Floyd has faced more champions than anyone who ever laced up a pair of gloves, and people still complain. People complain and nit pick, yet they do nothing themselves but complain about those that actually DO THINGS. :gay:
I dislike Haymon cause he's prevented good fights from happening. I dislike Haymon cause he fu.cks with ******'s. I dislike Haymon cause his shows have been mismatches. I dislike Haymon cause his fighters dont fight the best. I dislike Haymon because i believe, if he keeps putting on these type of shows, he'll make people dislike or care less for the sport even more.

Cmon be honest.. I'm watching regardless because I'm a die hard, but your posting like this is the best thing ever and it's not. HBO is putting a strong schedule as well.

Hear people screaming it's free and all that, but it doesn't matter to me.. If your preaching about not paying for HBO or showtime, why can't they put on cards and matches that HBO does? They're Paying more than what the premium channels pay for fights, yet not very good matchmaking.

I want nothing more than for PBC to be successful. I've watched all events so far and I've enjoyed then. However I don't understand how it can succeed from a financial standpoint. We're not even into it yet so there's no reason to pass any judgement yet, but I'm still worried about their business model with the whole time buy. Now granted saying Haymon is a better businessman then me is like saying an elephant is bigger than an ant, so I feel I should probably just shut my mouth and enjoy what happens in the ring, which is what I have been doing.

For the more financial savvy people can you tell me how much Haymon spends on purses, promotion and all that jazz and how much he needs to break even? I worry since they seem to be hoping to derive most of their money from ads. How much did the past 3 fights make at the gate? How much does ad space typically cost. I'm being sincere when I ask they questions because they're over my head and I have no idea, but with my simpleton mind it seems like a very risky venture.

Haymon has paid for 2 plus years of network TV air time already. Whether or not you like it or whether it fails or succeeds you will be watching the majority of boxing on PBC network tv cards for the next two years.

It takes time to build a brand. I kind of like it. People are simple minded and don't want to work for WHT they watch. Haymon wants people to see PBC and think big time boxing. The best. Whether it's true or not. If people actually began to associate with boxing like that all the haters are in trouble. He will get a big network deal. He will bring in new fans. He will make a profit. And he will be here to stay.
I don't care what he's doing, what I don't like is him making mis matches

I haven't heard anyone complain about paid boxing. Boxing on HBO and SHO is not free. They complain about mismatches and meaningless fights.
