FAR better.
So yeah, it makes sense to think of Roy as the better fighter.

With Kovalev's power he'd definitely stand a good chance of knocking Jones out and also a better chance of winning rounds against Jones than almost anyone. On the other hand it is hard for me to think any light-heavy would have a better than 50% chance against Roy in his prime, his speed, reflexes and all around athleticism were light-years ahead of any light-heavy I have ever seen.

RJJ is lightyears ahead of Hopkins, Pascal, Campillo, Cleverly etc. Simply in a different stratosphere. Kovalev moves in straight lines. RJJ is up-and-down, side-to-side, circles, squares, flying and rollerskating.

"pre-Calzaghe" ?? Is this a joke? Jones got ruined by the stint to HW and subsequent weight loss. Calzaghe fought a corpse already. Back to the topic - Jones wins easy UD. Kovalev never hurt in the process, but loses something like 10-2. And I like Kovalev very much. But he is a regular great fighter. Jones was a freak of nature. His reflexes were so above anybody else, that it seemed unfair... He had a luxury to do something and re-do twice, while his opponent tries to figure out what is going on. That was also his undoing when he lost that edge - he didn't have proper fundamentals - was too reliant on reflexes... But prime Jones is a tough ask for anybody in history.
