People always mention Roy's chin in this matchup but what about Kovalev? you could argue his chin is suspect too.

Prime Roy was dropped once and he pretty much won every other second of that fight. I think the speed difference would be apparent from round 1 and Kovalev would have a hard time setting himself to land the shot that knocks him down and out.
you can tell when people haven't watched boxing long.....Prime Jones took some good clean shots and didn't budge...John Ruiz was a 220+ heavyweight and landed clean on Roy and he didn't get dropped

The people talking about Roy's chin were the same people that were waiting for him to lose to say I told you he wasn't that good......Ignoring the fact the man didn't lose a legitimate fight until he was freaking 35......how many pro fighters, champions, or even hall of famers can say that

I understand people's curiosity when it comes to fantasy fights, but imo there is no point in making them. Especially when one of the fighters is still active.
Most people will pick the guy from the past. Not only will they pick them, they'll say the fighter from the past will destroy the current fighter. The current fighter has no chance in heck to even win a second against this "past fighter". That's how it always goes.
At the end of the day we will never know, who would have one. That's the truth.

The only time I like discussing fantasy fights, is when both fighters are retired. So we can look back at their accomplishments.
That's the best thing to go from.

Exactly. IF the question was about Roy after the 2nd Tarver fight that would be a completely different story.

He dined off that TOney win for the majority of his career though. There were a **** load of great great SMW's and LHWTS from Europe and America that he didn't even look at, and fought the Richard Hall's of this world > Cab Driver

I'd say KOvalev would hurt Roy once, expose the glass, and his killer instinct would take over, getting the championship round stoppage. Either that or Roy wins 7-5 8-4 in rounds. Though it is impossible to say one way or the other really because Kova has not shown any signs of being outboxed really.
I don't even see this fight being all that close.

Roy Jones was a super athlete. His athletic ability alone would have Kovalev looking very slow and off balance.

Roy had Floyd Mayweather type speed at Middleweight. Difference is Roy had that type of speed with one punch KO power. In his prime, he was a bad matchup for everybody. He had cat like defensive instincts as well.

Prime Roy was as close to unstoppable as I've EVER seen. At 154, I'd even take Roy over Floyd.

Roy was exceptional. He only lost to Tarver because he was older and had dropped 25 pounds to come back down to the Heavyweight Divison.

Kov is a nice Light Heavyweight. Very solid. But if old man Hopkins can still go 12 with Kov at age 50 then a prime, 25 year old Roy Jones DESTROYS Kovalev in 9 or 10 rounds.

John Ruiz was a ****ing god damned bum. He chose the worse heavyweight champ there was and if there was no Johh Ruiz holding a belt he would never have gone to heavyweight.

Jones had the gonads to move up to HW and beat a top 5 guy there. Call me when Kovalev does the same. Until then, Roy beats the brakes off of Kovalev...

John Ruiz was a bum lets be real. A Wilder-level heavyweight champ, terrible quality.

LOL you obviously didn't follow Roy's career like that. Maybe you're not old enough. It's all good but you really shouldn't post ignorance just to make your point.

At no point and time did Roy duck Nigel Benn or Dariusz Michalsweski. Period.

Since we're in 2015, I'll use the 2015 lingo: Roy Jones was the A SIDE. Michalsweski was the C SIDE. Yet Michalsweski acted like he was the A SIDE. So the fight never happened.

Call us when Kovalev goes up to HW and fights a John Ruiz-ish type of opponent...
