This is the kind of reckless mistake that Floyd can't afford to make against, Manny. He did used the lead hand measure, but instead of stepping back like JMM did in that other gif or quickly ducking his head under to avoid the straight left hand after the lead hand measure had done its job to alerted him, he simply tried to roll with the punch with his head in the air and paid the price. I really hope he learns his ****ing lesson and fix this terrible habit or he might get KTFO against, Pacquiao. As soon as the southpaw tries to push down to parry or punch over your lead hand with his lead hand, that should instantly alerts you to quickly step back out of range or duck under the straight left. Floyd is a great fighter who has all the intangibles to beat a lot of fighters, but sometimes he just make things harder on himself than they have to be.
Lead hand measure down, stood flat on his feet without getting out of range or ducking his head under, and he paid the price. He can't afford to standstill and let Manny set up his 1-2-1 attack. Either move out of range or duck under the straight left. Don't stand there with your chin up high in the air begging for the straight left to find the target. I'd advise him to just keep the lead hand measure up throughout the fight to anticipate Manny on the way in and when Manny tries to throw over the top of it, parry it down, or trying to get on the inside of it to get the leverage to set up his 1-2-1 or sometimes a lead straight left offense, just simply side-step out of punching range to make him miss altogether or quickly duck your head under and tie him up. The lead hand can be used as a warning system. As soon as it gets touch, you know something is coming, and you have three options, step out of range to make him miss all his punches, duck your head under to slip under the straight left hand, or just standstill with your chin up and eat the straight left.
I'd advise him to fight with his lead hand measure on Manny's face all night: This tactic can completely nullify an opponent's offense and slowing the pace of a fight. The more you keep it pawing it on your opponent's face to set up your offense, the harder it will get for your opponent to get his offense forward. He'll either try to use his own lead hand to parry down your lead to shoot his power punch, side step to another angle to regain his frontal vision and get out of your lead hand range, or he can try to rush through it and risk getting caught with a quick jab or power straight punch on the way in.
