How to make your reach advantage useless 101: Manny didn't even had to worry about getting bypass through Algieri's first line of defense/lead hand measure because Algieri made himself an easy target to get through with both of his hands up to protect his face or his lead hand down by his waist. When you're constantly backing up with your hands down or in a high guard stance and not keep your opponent at bay with a stiff or flicking jab, you automatically give your reach advantage away. Manny just ran through right at him with flurries. You have to find a way to nullify Manny's forward aggression and the best way to do it is to slow down his momentum by constantly hitting him with a stiff jab and pawing the jab in front of his face. He'll start to think more about trying to move on the inside of your lead foot to get to your right, while throwing less punches. The less punches he throws, the better chance you have at making him fight at your pace and beating him.

But yes, that straight right to the body will be key methinks.

Floyd is going to fight conventional style... Manny will be able to lead with his left no problem, yes Floyd will check hook but trust me once Floyd feels how hard manny hits that check hook is not going to be too good after that.
People really think this fight is going to play out like every other Floyd fight.

He was constantly on the move throughout the whole fight and nullified his own offense with his wasteful lateral movement. He telegraphed them a bit as well, but the few times he did threw them, he kept Manny on the defensive momentarily, but again, Algieri didn't followed up and set up his offense upstairs. Bradley threw a few right hand downstairs against Manny, but just like the few right hands he threw upstairs, they were more like looping right hands. Mosley had success with his straight right downstairs against Manny, but like Algieri, he fought like he didn't wanted to be in there with Manny and never followed up. Props to Manny, but I think those guys just fought dumb and never tried to imposed their skills the way Morales and Marquez had done against Manny.

You need to turn Manny with the left hook to make him think twice about rushing in by using a good right hand to either the body or the head.Last edited by Johnwoo8686; 03-04-2015, 06:12 PM.

The jab is not the greatest weapon to use against him because he'll throw that left hand as you're throwing that jab. If you throw a weak jab he'll stun you with the straight left. If you sit on the jab and try to make it hurt the impact of Manny's counter left hand will get you even worse.

Manny does most of his work at mid-range. He can counter you if your give him an opening while he's off the back foot, but he's not effective when it comes to fighting off the back foot. Just slowly walk Manny down behind the set-up jab, and dig downstairs with the straight right and follow up with a few lead straight rights upstairs. It's not like he'll get reckless and start winging bombs at Manny like Bradley did and get counter at the same time. He has the reach to apply that smart pressure strategy; he should do it in some rounds against, Manny.
