Comments Thread For: Hunter: Andre Ward Already Said He'd Fight Golovkin

One of the bigger matches that fans want to see is a future meeting between WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) and WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs).

Golovkin is scheduled to defend his belts against Martin Murray on February 21 in Monaco. Ward has been inactive since November 2013, mostly due to an ongoing legal dispute with current promoter Goossen Promotions.

Am I the only one who wants to see GGG fight more names at 160? Like Canelo, Cotto, and others moving up in the future??? If he fights Ward that is just another excuse for guys moving up to say "Hey I mean he is an established super middleweight why doesn't he just stay up there???". I say Ward can grow a pair and leave 168 in pursuit of more high dollar fights at 175. I'm telling you GGG will eventually go up to 168. GGG has more to lose as time goes on with postponing his jump to 168, so idk why Ward fans are so adamant about him moving up immediately.

Hunter also said Ward would need at least two tune-ups, and he's not even fighting right now.

I don't blame Golovkin's people for not wanting to put him in the ring with Ward yet.

Ward should be stripped of his title for being inactive. He has done nothing for too long.

I would like to see the fight too. I just want to pay PPV Money for this.

Had nothing to really do with Golovkin. As his trainer, he'd ideally like him to shake off rust because of how long he's been out of the ring.

Golovkin's management wouldn't entertain the fight regardless and they said that long before Hunter spoke. They said it before Ward was even inactive.
