$6m for four fights, for a guy in "One Time" Keith Thurman's position, is an out-and-out "so so" deal.
He's going to make a good amount of money for the Bundu fight, will likely have another big fight February/March 2015 (Lopez/Guerrero-level guys), and a pretty major fight Summer/2015 (vs Maidana would make sense), to set up a big fight on the Floyd card in September, possibly even a Mayweather fight.
If he gets by Bundu, Lopez, Maidana, and gets the Mayweather fight, win or lose, he's easily made $5m-$8m, while also still having the freedom to negotiate a longer term deal, after being showcased on four major shows, for even bigger money.
Same reason why Wilder walking away from the $2m advance (5-year deal) from Roc Nation wasn't that "OMG".
If he beats Stiverne (no idea what type of money he's looking at), and beats Bryant Jennings (no idea what type of money he's looking at), he's still got the big money showdown with Klitschko to look to, all of which while still having his promotional freedom and a TV network ready and willing to continue to showcase his fights.
Why give up your freedom for about the same money that you can get while still working on your own?

Roc sports seems to be going out of their way to poach Haymon fighters when it's he clear they aren't interested in doing business with them.
If your not interested in growing your own talent then buy out Wards contract and take him to the next level.
Said it before I just think Roc sports has the blessing of HBO to create discontent among Haymon fighters. It appears to me it's more of a divide and conquer technique then a actual Interest in boxing.

Its not up to Thurman anyways
He probably knew Haymon was gonna turn it down anyways so there was no point in dragging it out
Of course its dumb cuz no Al Haymon fighter besides Floyd has made $6 million dollars during the span of Al Haymon managing them
He would've made that in 3 fights with Roc Nation but he signed that slave contract and thats his fault

On the other hand, if Bundy knocks him out cold, and he had taken the deal beforehand, he would still be set for life with that 6 million.
The only downside of taking the deal is if he would make more money over those next three fights. Which is quite possible. But they could have easily accounted for that, and would likely have been happy to do so, within the text of the deal.
For example, lets say he knocks Bundu out spectacularly. Then they put him in there with two more well known guys at 40 / 47 and he does the same. Event fights with dramatic KO endings. Then by the the end of 2015 for that third fight he gets in with whatever other fighter is still standing and winning and his popularity is swelling. Well they could look at his numbers and say if he hits XX number in the ratings etc, he gets more for the next fight, or what have you.
My point being there is no true downside of this deal, because if the guy blows up they could make it so they financially accommodate him accordingly.
Oh wait, for Haymon there is a downside. Be a good boy Keith and tell the press you didn't want that man's money. Now go back in the doghouse with all the others and wait until I throw you a bone.....
He's easily made the $6m, and he's still be looking at another $3m-$4m for the Mayweather fight, all while still being free to pursue a beneficial longterm deal with someone, if that were the move that was to be made.
Who would Roc Nation have lined up for Thurman to actually get the full $6m, because he's only getting $1m for that first fight? Mayweather isn't going to fight for Roc Nation and you know that Bob Arum never opens his books up to co-promote with anyone. Eddie Hearn may be open to working with Roc Nation for a fight with Kell Brook, but that's a maybe, especially with Roc Nation not even bringing TV with them.
Roc Nation has no fights lined up, and Thurman could easily be faced with a situation where he owes fights to a company that's unable to deliver for him, yet won't let him free to chase down fights.

Most avoided alright.

If Roc Nation were smart they'd just be chasing after top amateurs (Devin Haney is an interesting one, imo); get a couple of them and show that they have the structure to actually build someone up the way that they hype.
