Arum said while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn't interested in participating in.

"That's not in the cards," Arum said. "He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. We'll talk about things down the road."

The split frees Mayweather to make a potential deal with De La Hoya without Arum as part of the promotion. His involvement would have made making a deal almost impossible: The head of Top Rank has openly feuded with De La Hoya, his former superstar, and their companies rarely do business together as a result.

Arum said he was simply not interested in participating in a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight, but not because of his distaste for De La Hoya.

"I don't want to, because if I did that fight, I would be working for such a small percentage, it's not worth it," he said.



"Absolutely he did [make the right move going on his own]," Arum said. "Why? He realized something we didn't realize. He kept telling us we were promoting him wrong, and we should make an effort, a big effort, to promote him in the urban community. I as an old guy remembered the urban community from the days of promoting Muhammad Ali, and it is a totally different community now than it was then during the Ali days.

"He meant that we should have promoted him to the young black people in the music community and those in the urban market place. He was completely right. If he'd have stayed with us, maybe we would have gotten it. Maybe. Maybe. But to a certain extent, he's been better off on his own doing what he's done, and I have no hard feelings."



Mayweather wasn't scared of Cotto or Margarito. Oscar where where the money was at. Once he was gone, he couldn't get Cotto, but he got him...after he left Arum. Like someone said, Cotto laid the blueprint for Manny. Manny chose to do otherwise.

And the way you get a higher guaranteed future purse is by fighting and winning. So what would have happened, had arum accepted the guarantees, in the contract, then floyd goes and loses. Can't take the guarantees away now. Floyd is a smart business man. IMO margarito would have stopped him and those guarantees would have went down the toilet.

Whats funny is that people keep saying Floyd needs Manny to make over 1.5 million buys and that it will be the biggest fight out there, but Floyd has twice set the ppv buy record approaching and reaching over 2 million buys.

If Manny is Floyds equal why is he not doing anywhere close to this?

That is not a known that they would split enough that he would make 40 in a split. Where do you think that 40 million is coming from the revenue of the fight~. Or you you spend percentage points now instead of cold hard currency

Also him saying no was not the issue, making fun of it and saying how terrible it was without trying to make it work was. If you want to make it happen you don't take a decent offer, then laughing at it and down playing it instead of you know negotiating shows how much they wanted to make something happen.

The fact that you are too blind to see that instead harping on the amount and what you think of it which is not even a knowledgeable stance.

Remember when Arum had that list of opponents Manny was supposed to fight then he ended up with Chris Algebra who wasn't even on the list.

Why no Amir Khan, or Thurman who said he would knock Manny out, or even Devon Alexander would be better than Chris Algebra.

floyd fans are also 100 percent certain that the fight would happen if pacquiao agreed to blood test no cut-off date. anyways gbp and top rank are already working together. pacquiao is calling floyd out. he couldn't have that alibi that he is not working with arum because he had negotiated with arum in 2009.

So let me get this straight… You think that because they tried and failed to make a fight in 2009 which subsequently caused Bob Arum to go on a complete warpath against mayweather and gbp, encourage pacquiao to file a frivolous lawsuit, to claim that he doesn't know who mayweather's representatives are, lie to the media repeatedly about negotiations being on going when they weren't at all, to flat out reject Richard Schaefer's letter intent to begin negotiations in 2012 and to generally do everything in his power to keep the fight from happening that now in 2014 after all of that mayweather should still be willing to deal with Bob Arum. Bob Arum has publicly compared mayweather to hitler and you guys still can't see that a person with such a belligerent personality could be problem to deal with. It took for Cotto to leave Bob Arum for a fight to be made with Mayweather and this is no different. Trying act like Bob Arum isn't the problem after all of his public antics have been on display for so many years is just Pacquiao fan denial of the truth.

No, you said Floyd asked Manny to sign to Mayweather Promotions, I asked where you got this from? Still no answer. Now back to Arum, take the money owed out of the picture, would you conduct business with a man who publicly calls for a boycott of your product and compares you to Hitler? Now how can Maidana have Alexander problems if they only fought once, Manny has Marquez problems because he still needs a 5th attempt to try to figure him out.
