There has been plenty of fights, including championship fights, were a fighter got up close to the ten count and the ref would let them continue. Why? Cuz they wasn't still down by the count of 10. Not up by the count of 9, but up before the count of 10.

Your taught in the gym to get up at 8 if you think you can continue. You need to be on your feet to get your equilibrium right not to wait for the "ref to check it"! I'm not talking about the rules I'm talking about how a fighter needs to conduct himself!

For all you "Johnny Come Lately" boxing fans, listen up. That call (the incorrect stoppage) is emblematic of the problematic direction boxing is moving in. Every referee now days thinks he is judge, jury, and executioner, that he is in the ring to "protect" the fighters. NOWHERE in the rules of boxing is the ref's role to do anything other than enforce the basic rules and keep the flow of the fight going. For you dopes who know nothing, the unwritten "rule" is that if the boxer is rising you DONT count him out even if a glove or knee is still touching the canvas. The reason you ask? Because the whole count thing in inaccurate anyway. The ref is NOT really counting, he is trying to watch the time keeper and the boxer, and integrate the two things (the actual count and the floored boxer). Bad call. Terrible call by the ref.

The fact that he actually waved his hands in front of an upright fighter who was standing right in his face is what bugs me out.

Meh. You could see Ortiz want as good as his record suggested. The ref saved him. He never argued the stoppage either. Ortiz will get a decent named opponent who he can beat. This was best case for Ortiz.

i watched a pretty ****ty stream, is it true that it was loud when he landed the punch?
I was 10 rows back in the stands (not the floor seats) and didn't hear it land, but that's probably too far away.

Legit hard body shot but terrible stoppage. He was up at 9/10, Bengie should have let him go on, he was good to go.
