He gets decent paychecks on HBO, but I'm not adverse to him getting a big payday, seeing that he's the man at 168 and P4P #2. Admittedly though, much of why he doesn't get those paydays is his own fault
GGG has not declared anyone afraid of him, but Abel Sanchez and the gang certainly has, and that's how many boxing fans worldwide view him. Sanchez has stated more than once that nobody at 154-168 will face GGG, and have built in excuses for why they wouldn't. The same excuses that his team use on a regular basis for not fighting SOG.
"If I win the tournament and beat Bute, it would be everything I could achieve [at that weight]. Therefore, in the future I do intend to move up. I want to win titles and face the best."
That quote is from 05/11/2011, and here we are on 07/27/2014 and Andre Ward is still at 168. I shouldn't have to mention to you that a lot of things change over a 3 year period, such as the potential mega money matches with the guys I listed above. It's not nitpicking, it's being realistic. If a guy doesn't follow through with something over 36 months after saying it, you should expect that it's not gonna happen, and not even bother posting something that old as evidence. I COULD nitpick, but I'm not gonna, because this is actually a good discussion, which I don't get much here lol.The tournament, organized by Showtime, gave me the opportunity to fight the best fighters in my category, and after its completion there won't be anything for me at this weight
Since the tournament he's fought a 175er who came down a full division, and no name Edwin Rodriguez who at the time also competed at LHW. Froch, Kessler rematches can easily be construed as cherrypicks given how the first fights went. Then again, neither of these guys intend to fight Ward outside of their hometown, something Ward doesn't seem to be agreeable to, at all. I guess it's the emergence of Sartison and Kashtanov that's keeping him at 168.
Either way, i don't care what Ward said. The important thing is, he never came up with an offer, much less very attractive one like Top Rank did when trying to match GGG vs Chavez on PPV.

This topic has gotten so tired, why are some fans having such a hard time letting this match-up go? Ward and GGG fight in separate divisions. One is dealing with promotional issues, and the other is still in the brand-building process. This fight isn't considered to be a PPV attraction yet, and that's what both guys are looking for. One guy has pretty much cleaned out his division, while the other is still doing so. Both guys don't have trouble making their own respective weight class, so neither is willing to travel away from their weight. GGG has yet to prove himself at SMW, but is being asked to fight the best guy there. When GGG proves himself @168 and Ward is back to fighting, then we can return to the match-up.

Froch and Kessler are no doubt cherry picks, but considering his resume, I think he's entitled to one by now to make some decent money. His last 7 (EDIT: Put 6) opponents include all of the top guys at his weight, and 1 above his weight (though contested at 168). I fully believe that the best should fight the best, but the best should also be allowed to make some decent scratch. GGG, Kessler, Froch, and Chavez Jr. all provide that, and 3 of those 4 guys happen to be superb fighters.
As far as him not making an offer, he's sidelined with an injury, and going through a contractual dispute. As such, GGG's team shouldn't even be mentioning his name, and we probably shouldn't even be discussing this. The video I posted makes our debate meaningless anyway. GGG clearly said he's not going to be facing him anytime soon.Last edited by doom_specialist; 07-27-2014, 10:08 PM.
