I mean if I'm not mistaken both fought Kevin Kelley who was way over the hill by that time.

Wayne McCullough was over the hill, undersized, way too many wars, and really is not world-class material.

Naz- well even the Mexican fans say so themselves, that the Prince was nothin' but a fraud and fighting bums the whole time.

We all know the obvious that MoraJoto and Cave livin' Barrera still don't want any part of Juan Manuel Marquez.

So you trying to say those two are overrated? lol...

Some distinctions that may also have to be made of the two:

Duran, without fail, came to the ring with unmasked, unrestrained evil intentions painted all over him. Looking at him, you get the feeling you're about to be made witness to a slaughter. The firm jaw, the smirk and the glint in the eyes say it all.

Pac, while a dervish during rounds, does not come accross as one uncontrollable animal.

In promotional outings, one sees a Duran who can hardly wait to devour his opponent. Compared to him, Pac is a gentle soul. Remember that when heckeld during the pre-fight press conference at Wynn prior to the second Morales meeting, Pac responded by saying, "Viva Mexico!" with a wide grin? One can't imagine Roberto doing that.

imo, the difference between Pac and Duran is

Duran lost to all the top dogs in his division, Hagler, Hearns, Sugar Ray, Wilfredo Benitez. He got a controversial win with Sugar Ray and he lost the rematch and don't get me wrong i'm not trying to downplay Duran.

Duran is one of my favorite, i've seen all his televised fights in Manila (two hours delayed ) when i was little, he is very exciting to watch always goes forward like Pac, they have somewhat similar head movements, that's probably also why this thread was started in the first place.

Pac on the other hand dominated/dominating his division. he the beat the 3 top dogs in his divisions EM, MAB, JMM (and yes JMM included, even his team knows they got lucky with the draw, and they've been ducking Pac ever since) and if they fight again, improved two power fisted Pac will stop JMM mid rounds. Pac is knocking everybody out including the legendary top dogs in his divisions.

So to say that comparing Duran to Pac is an insult to Duran is just plain wrong. peace!

I think people who have responded to this thread are completely missing the boat on what "SRL#1FAN" is trying to get across to us all. He's not making a comparison just look at the quote above. I think what he's trying to point out are the similar paths that each took.

And if you look at it, it does make sense
Both fighters came up from much lighter weights
and both fought the best opposition.

SRL#1FAN even mentions that Pac is in no way in the same league as the "Hands of Stone".

So what is everybody hot and heated about?

You really gotta love a guy that tries to discount Duran' career. He was the BEST fighter of the 70's and arguably the best fighter out of the FAB 4 (Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran).

You're accusing me of discounting Duran's career? LOL! gimme a break. I'm not discounting Duran's career, like i said he is one of my favorite, and i really appreciate his contribution to boxing.

You're an idiot. I shouldn't even waste my time debating with you because you don't know your stuff but I'll do so anyways just so I can enlighten you.

                      Consider the following:

                      1. Duran was the meanest, toughest lightweight champion of all time. Period. I have a hard time finding many lightweights better then him with the exception of B. Leonard, and Gans. Whitaker would be a tough match for him, but I think at the end Duran's will would of prevailed.
                      2. A lightweight champion dethroning a welterweight champion was unprecedented for 50 years. Ray Leonard was near his prime as well when Duran defeated him and don't be fooled --the first fight mattered most.
                      3. A lightweight champion has never, ever dethroned a MIDDLEWEIGHT champion and Duran did just that --10 years after his prime and against a man (Iran Barkley) who was much larger and in his prime. Some of the techniques Duran used in that fight have not been seen at that level for decades because they were learned at the feet of trainers like Ray Arcel and Freddie Brown.

In no way, shape, or form should 'Pacman' EVER be compared to Duran. Duran's a Ferrari and Pacman's a ford.
