Very true. He made his first $1 million under TR. Mares, in comparison, who is 10 times exciting got his first $300K in the Mayweather undercard.

Rigondeaux is one of the most talented fighters i have seen in a long time. He is probably one of the most skilled of the past 15 years and that is saying a lot for a guy with so few fights, but you dont get those amatuer and proo accolades with no skill. i have seen it for myself. Including of Ward, Mayweather, and Hopkins this guy is a master of his craft.

Arum in his comfy confines of being a promoter got used to a fighter having a certain demographic that sold. DLH was mexican-american, a heart throb, a puncher etc. so with or without Arum he was gonna be a huge draw. Same for Pacquiao who had a country on his back, a fan friendly style and heart and natural gifts.

How the hell do you have two skilled guys like Mayweather and Rigondeaux and hold them back or dont know what to do with them. Mayweather did everything he said he was gonna do when he left Arum. Break records, make absurd amounts of money, and fight Cotto, Mosley, DLH who Arum prevented him from fighting. G.R. has a decision to make.


If I am a true world champion, one of the most skilled in my sport, would I listen to a guy that has not been a fighter tell me to change what isnt broke? Hell no!!! I bet if he goes to Golden Boy or other top promo companies, they will promotes his skill, and class and not downplay him as being entertaining or not

I can understand your frustration at the lack of billing Rigondeaux is receiving but be under no illusions, Bob Arum is the most important promoter in boxing history. He has been beating his competitors for over 4 decades, no one in boxing has been that consistent or that successful.

Arum is older now, maybe more stubborn (he always has been) but he still knows on how to pull of the big shows and how to work out the best deals. HBO this year lost it's biggest money spinner n Mayweather but for my money, with Arum on their side, they have still put on the more relevant and more competitive shows. This isn't coincidence or blind luck, this is what happens when a man knows how to do his job.

Arum may be saying things that the media is blowing out of proportion or misquoting, but he knows how to get the best out of Rigondeaux, if he didn't like the man or did not appreciate his craft, he would never have put him in with the biggest name south of 135. Give Arum and Top Rank time, they will do the best by Rigondeaux.

that's actually the reason why arum is finding it hard to get a hbo schedule for rigo...he already commands a hefty amount for his purse. can't blame if they think it's not worth the risk.

the point is Bob knew what he was getting in rigo. he also knew there was a chance nonito could lose. Its silly to think rigo would accept going from 750k to a lesser fee afetr beating nonito.

My god. Rigo might be the finest defensive fighter in the world. He has more defense than necessary and he has a ton to spare to be slightly more aggressive without leaving himself in danger.

arum has actually done a good job promoting rigo...he put him in a couple ppv cards and got him a title fight in just a few fights.

Donaire wanted so much to be in the Pacquiao undercards. Arum says no everytime saying, "Too much ice cream is bad." Here is Rigo being given the exposure every boxer dream of, but he's still complaining. And Donaire used to have a not-so fan-friendly style. He made adjustments. Have never seen him chase any opponent of his in the past because he's a natural defensive counter puncher.

At the end of the day, the promoter can't always stick around and babysit you all day. You have to do your part. Your best promoter is yourself.
