My god. Rigo might be the finest defensive fighter in the world. He has more defense than necessary and he has a ton to spare to be slightly more aggressive without leaving himself in danger.
And he has done just that when he's not fighting the hardest puncher in the sport p4p who had Montiel laying on his back like he was having a seizure. Its like people are saying "please open up and give Nonito more opportunities."

Is it a sin to be cautious against deadly, lighting quick counter punchers like Donaire?

Its funny how the boxing wizards are "hard to promote" Didnt Bob say the same about Floyd.

the point is Bob knew what he was getting in rigo. he also knew there was a chance nonito could lose. Its silly to think rigo would accept going from 750k to a lesser fee afetr beating nonito.
That's part of the problem though, Donaire/Rigondeaux was a big fight so he got paid well. Rigondeaux purse cant keep rising just because he got paid a lot for a high profile fight, where is the money supposed to come from when he fights a lesser known fighter? What your saying makes sense in theory but If HBO wont pay that much for his next fight it is what it is. Arum can try a PPV on his own for Rigondeaux and guarantee him a giant purse but if they think they would lose money it doesn't make sense. It sucks for Rigondeaux but hes not entitled to huge amounts of money just because people think hes a defensive wizard, he has to bring in money too.

Then why did Top Rank sign him to a multi-fight deal with a $750K minimum per fight? Its still poor planning on their part.

(I don't know if its $750K but it is a large amount. )

You can promote the shit out of Rigo but if the people aint dying to see him and think he boring no amount of promotion is ever gonna change that.

The real boxing fans dont count for ratings etc cause they gonna watch any boxing match no matter who it is and shell out the dollars unconditionally, The casuals fans are what the networks cater to cause they are the ones who shell out the dollars conditionally. So to be somebody you Either gotta have A) a fighting style the people love [Mix it up] or B) have a personality the people extremely love or C) have a personality the people extremely hate. Rigo has none of the above.

Arum said he'd stick him on a PPV undercard if HBO didn't wanna pay up, however then you don't get main event exposure or billing, and the minimum is also the ceiling.

Im not sure I don't know the details of his contract but if that's true and they already guaranteed him those purses for future fights then youre right, it was poor planning. It just doesn't really make sense if they knew he wasn't selling to offer him so much money.

rigondeaux is a 122 lb cuban in his 30's. he speaks no english. cubans are not boxing fans. he is a pure boxer. his fights are boring to the layman. tough sell. he'll never be a superstar.

the people acting like bob arum has some vendetta against rigondeaux are the some of the most clueless. bob arum doesn't like making money? he would get rich off of this guy if he could.

it is not worth his time. it will not get him rich. the only thing a fighter like rigondeaux is fight for short money and win, and hope the market dictates that he must get fights.

want to blame somebody for rigondeaux not being a star? blame the nonexistent cuban fanbase.

Let him go Arum. Hand him to Schaefer or something. People are getting sick of these threads. Man these clowns will blame Arum for the climate changes.

Including of Ward, Mayweather, and Hopkins this guy is a master of his craft.

Arum in his comfy confines of being a promoter got used to a fighter having a certain demographic that sold. DLH was mexican-american, a heart throb, a puncher etc. so with or without Arum he was gonna be a huge draw. Same for Pacquiao who had a country on his back, a fan friendly style and heart and natural gifts.

How the hell do you have two skilled guys like Mayweather and Rigondeaux and hold them back or dont know what to do with them. Mayweather did everything he said he was gonna do when he left Arum. Break records, make absurd amounts of money, and fight Cotto, Mosley, DLH who Arum prevented him from fighting. G.R. has a decision to make.

If I am a true world champion, one of the most skilled in my sport, would I listen to a guy that has not been a fighter tell me to change what isnt broke? Hell no!!! I bet if he goes to Golden Boy or other top promo companies, they will promotes his skill, and class and not downplay him as being entertaining or not
You're trying to tell the man who promoted 26 Muhammed Ali fights, and every single one of Marvin Hagler's 60 fights how to promote......??

I only key into this site to see how the Dumbos are messing up the scenery. Therefore I'm never short of a laugh.

There are many ways in which a fighter can become more '"fan friendly" which have more to do with entertainment and schtik rather than actual boxing. Let the man who knows his business carry it out. His advice and guidance is worth more than your silly nonsense.
