3 things I thought during the fight.
1. Damn, Jhonny Gonzalez has a lot of KOs!
2. Ah... Mares used to be his sparring partner?
3. Then the right hand knocked Mares off balance.
I was starting to think this might not be good for Mares. Next thing I know he was on the floor... Good win for Gonzalez.

Hey do the boxing fans a favor and go over to the MMA channel & stay there. That way you'll be jn good company with people who don't care about a fighters health. Dude got caught & was hurt. He wasn't goi g to recover even if the round had ended. People like you don't care about the sport, just the damage you get to see someone other than yourself take.

It's an unfortunate reality among the majority of posters on these forums nowadays. Personally, seeing Mares lose like this makes him a more interesting fighter to watch now. After a hard loss, you want to see how a fighter returns. not unlike a Filipino fighter who is fighting later this year.

That's the thing. He should have demonstrated proper recovery by not getting stung and knocked down the second time. That was a vicious left hook he took. He needed to cover up and hold. He did not give himself time to recuperate; instead he opted to fight back when he didn't have the legs to do it effectively. It was the first round anyhow! And that was his bad. It's a learning experience, though, and a mistake I don't think he'll do again.

The ref saw the whole thing and deduced that Mares was too hurt to continue at that point. He didn't know the time and should not care about that. After a knockdown, his main concern is the fighter's perceived health. That's pretty much it.

when you don't take easy fights this type of **** happens. in my opinion he looked to small for gonzalez I don't think he was getting ****y or didn't respect gonzalez he just got caught by a bigger stronger fighter. gary Russell would be a good comeback fight for mares next year.
