It's a very reasonable assumption.

There are about 8 million total Puerto Ricans and about 13 million total Cubans. Cuba had a world champion (the original Kid Chocolate) before Mexico or Puerto Rico. All of our ATGs and HOFers (Kid Gavilan, Kid Chocolate, Jose Napoles, "Sugar" Ramos, Luis Rodriguez) came before Castro took power. After Castro shut off the supply, we were relegated to amateur boxing for half-a-century. With the exception of Casamayor's defection, we didn't really get back into the pro game until the last few years.

who cares who had the first world champion , fact is cuba has had more world champions when fidel took power than when cuba was free.....so how can you blame communism is beyond me .. logic just does not support it ...

You don't know what you're talking about. Castro shut off pro sports shortly after taking power. Cuba had more world champions before Castro took control. Even guys like Napoles and Ramos were already well into their pro careers when Castro took over. They fled the island to continue their campaigns. After a half-century, a few of our guys have managed to escape the island. The few that we've got have done pretty well, but they're still very few in number.

i dont or you dont?....lets see: cuba has had 15 world champs if you include quillin then thats 16 ..

castro time champions: gamboa , rigondeau , abril , hernadez , casamayor ,gomez,ramos, hurtado,rodriguez, napoles ,quillin..thats already 10 champions who became champions at castros' time...math aint a rocket science in this thing man ...
