The argument is, are Cuban fighters becoming a dominant force, to rival Mexico in the Pro leagues? And the answer is no, and for two reasons.

Lack of talents: yes, regardless of the condition for Cubans to make it to the state, you need more contenders to push that banner. They need to make their presence known. The general public does not know, or care for the likes of Lara, Rigo, or Gamboa outside of the hardcore base.

Lack of Support: If the Cuban Americans supported their athletes to their fullest, matches would be easier to make, instead of relaying on the money brought in by Americans, or Mexicans fan
    s.

There is no excuse for this. Puerto Rico is much smaller, yet they are able to support their athletes like Cotto to the point of becoming a cash cow/ppv attraction.
I think youre confusing talent with being "Popular" that is completely the Promoters job but its hard to find a Cuban willing to be a media whore flushing money down the toilet in youtube specially when all they get for winning a Gold medal is 200 dollars . But i digress back to the point maybe By lack of talent you mean amount of Cuban boxers in the sport let's assume that then of course there is not enough talent to carry rivalries not with Mexico but with anyone and i completely agree with that after Rigo hangs his Gloves and Gamboa and Lara do too then what? Wait another decade for another Cuban to swim here? There is never going to be a credible rivalry with anyone there are literally barely 100s some active Cuban Pro's IN THE WHOLE WORLD and the ones that do escape Cuba by the time they get sick of being treated like dogs, lets face it they never are in their early 20's. So there's no room to build a following among the casual boxing fans who have the attention span of a spoon .

But the point is, with those odds being mentioned all over the sport, having top tier talent in a couple of divisions, quite a few world champions as well and on top of that having any undisputed champ on the top 10 p4p fighter is a statistical miracle. So right now It's a good time for Cuba in pro boxing overall even if not even 1% of it's talent is getting the chance, if by some miracle when were all old or dead things change over there (and here), that is going to be a fun day for quite a few sports and i wouldn't limit it to Cuba vs Mexico more like a free for all rivalry . If i could pick a Rivalry for Cubans be vs PR because of the whole Flag ripoff thing but Mexicans already took that one so well find our own .

And keep in mind were talking about dynasty rivalries that span decades here not **** between 2 fighters that in the end are forgotten.

The thing is, you can say Cuba's 5 are better than Mexico's 30.

Like I said, Mares, Canelo, Garcia.

Calling Santa Cruz a world beater is a joke. The kid is good, yes. But fighting janitors like Zaleta is hardly anything to brag about.

Lara schooled one of Mexico's best fighters, Angulo.

Gamboa annihilated Ponce de León. I bet de Leon is in that "world rated" fighter list. And he's ***in cheeks.

There isn't a "rivalry" between Mexico and Cuba. And there won't be until we get a lot of memorable fights between the two in the years to come.

All I'm saying is, Mexico has the quantity. Cuba has the quality.
kid chocolate is far form the best mw on paper or hype..maybe number 3 at most , so you get that **** straight first and foremost..i think he beats sergio but until that happens we cant rate him higher than him , esp not GGG..

lara just got almost koed by a face first face brawler ( he's lucky it was not margarito in there), arguably lost to molina..

gamboa just struggled vs a unknown fighter.. thats 3

riongondeaux on the other hand is the excellent one....cant say nothing about that, but thats just one fighter...

all you are saying is speculation and assumption ..if what youre saying is true , how come puerto rico has had way more champons than cuba then ?..i know communism is next but how come when communsim was not the rule in cuba , they did'nt not have as much champion as when fidel ruled ?...somehting to think about ..i just dont see the logic to that argumnet....

              It's a very reasonable assumption.

There are about 8 million total Puerto Ricans and about 13 million total Cubans. Cuba had a world champion (the original Kid Chocolate) before Mexico or Puerto Rico. All of our ATGs and HOFers (Kid Gavilan, Kid Chocolate, Jose Napoles, "Sugar" Ramos, Luis Rodriguez) came before Castro took power. After Castro shut off the supply, we were relegated to amateur boxing for half-a-century. With the exception of Casamayor's defection, we didn't really get back into the pro game until the last few years.

                  lol

I believe that, just like the baseball players, there will be more and more Cuban boxers coming over. It seems like there are more Cuban pro ballplayers every day. And if/when there's political change on the island...watch out!
