With Floyd going away and no other big names at 153 really, he has to impressively dismantle somebody with some name value before he can get that Floyd fight and it should be Lee.
i think martinez is done with fighting europeans, martinez just beat the number two guy in the division, he doesnt have anything to prove at mw. chavez is the only name at mw, and that is who he wants to fight. if cant get hin he'll go down to 154 and look for fights against kirkland or canelo or some other name fighter.

The HBO crew was ignoring how Martinez literally had his distance down from the very first round and landing it at will over Macklin's jab. Martinez was also landing that left the entire time, just not to the head. Martinez was jabbing away when he was going back, and landing the straight when hew as coming forward he was in complete control almost the entire fight. Was Martinez even out of breath at the end of the fight? He landed almost everything he wanted. He started putting more on the right jab later on and Macklin would completely lose his footing from it and have to reset. Macklin did surprisingly well, but Martinez controlled throughout. HBO really doesn't like Martinez, that guy has been trying to get props for a long time now. Martinez DEFINITELY gets robbed if JCC jr comes in at 180+ again and is able to tank Martinez's hits til a decision. And if JCC Jr doesnt even have to drug test..good luck, Sergio, facing a guy with a 20 pound weight difference and the most crooked promoter known to man who has ALSO been caught buying off officials in the 90s I believe? Jcc Jr, physically..can give Martinez a lot of problems. That is a LOT of weight to overcome at that particular weight class.

Also, Martinez seemed like he trimmed some muscle down or is it just me? He seemed thinner, even his legs seemed skinny. I think it's clear he has something planned for 154. I bet he has his eye on mayweather-cotto winner. I don't think Floyd is too small for martinez.

Also, someone mentioned that Martinez's speed would give Floyd problems but I disagree, it's his sense of timing and willingness/ability to go through different game plans that is impressive imo.

Floyd is much better skilled, but for a guy that WILL have a size advantage facing a hard and quick/slick southpaw, it will cause problems. It's the combination of speed, size and style, not just the speed. Martinez is great at going around the guard and he'd for sure (imo) be a better challenge to Floyd than Pac to floyd. Pac is going to do the same thing throughout that fight, weather it works or not. If it doesn't work, he's done..if Martinez has things not go his way, he tries different approaches, guarding, angles, aggression, etc. Martinez is very resourceful.
      Very, very good post.

No sir. Narvaez made nonito look wild & ****** at times w/ his slickness...Barker stayed in a shell & still got stopped. Nonito was 5'7 fighting a guy 5'3 & scared to take it to him & force him to open up & in the end blamed his opponent for not fighting to get ko'd. (duh!) Narvaez was undefeated by the way & was touching nonito...had his face knicked the **** up despite a limited attack. Nonito couldn't even press narvaez & make him breathe hard...

Yeah but MArtinez actually finds a way and MAKES IT HAPPEN. Donaire blames his opponents for not getting the K.O. Two very different things.

As I said, the way to beat a guy like Martinez is to put pressure on him to not give him room to operate. Guys who put relentless pressure on him will always give him problems and one of them will eventually beat him considering his age.

HBO has the star power but Showtime has better broadcaster. Second fight in a row they are criticizing Martinez and then they jump on the wagon. Larry Merchant is starting to be annoying as ****, the guy just wants to see a throwback fight all the time.

Yeah, but to be fair Martinez actually got a KO against both Barker and Macklin. Also Macklin was IMO #2 MW because he was the true winner against Sturm, while Vazquez was coming of a TKO loss against Arce.

I think it's actually the other way around, putting smart pressure like Macklin did today. Even Macklin admitted that putting relentless pressure against Martinez was impossible because Sergio is a very good counter puncher.

I'm a Merchant fan but he let me down with his 'agenda' today.

It's like HBO only wants super human performances from Martinez and Donaire.
