Eubank hadn't won a legit fight in years at 168 when he fought Calzaghe. And was having life and death fights with average fighters.
He also fought pretty well against Calzaghe.
He was past his prime but not far from it. Certainly closer to it than Mosley was when he beat Margarito.Last edited by Dave Rado; 12-16-2011, 03:29 PM.

And after his beat-down in the rematch against Bute, it would no longer have made commercial sense to invite Andrade rather than an unbeaten fighter like Green. Before the tournament started, Ward, Dirrell and Green were all rated about the same, as unbeaten, unproven but very talented prospects.

In 1997 it is impossible to say Chris Eubank was close to his prime. When did he reitre? 98? 99? Not long after 1997.
People deemed Chris Eubank past his prime after the secon fight with Nigel Benn. Let alone when he fought Calzaghe.
When he fought Calzaghe, he hadn't won a fight at Super Middleweigh in what? 3 years?
He was looking lack luster against dead average fighters like Ray Close.
There is simply no way it can be disputied that he was well past his prime at that point.
And he was frankly on the way out. Quite literally.Last edited by IronDanHamza; 12-16-2011, 07:25 PM.

Vargas and Taylor wouldnt even make a top 300 all time list, let alone top 100.
Resume names = Calzaghe
Record = Calzaghe
Title Defenses = Calzaghe
KO% = Calzaghe
General All time greatness = Calzaghe
If Winky's name was Ronald, no one would even know who he was.
