I see some posters are already making excuses for him.

Very good point that I neglected to mention in the original post. Floyd is coming off yet another long layoff to boot. Mosley nor Marquez had what Ortiz has currently. That's the strenght of youth. Honestly Floyd is playing the numbers game with a fighter that has the majority of the numbers firmly on his side. The only category that Floyd dominates is defense & jabs. Maybe stamina, we'll all find out. Jaws will be dropping.

I won't be surprised. I see PBF an overrated boxer anyway.

Maybe. Or maybe Floyd knocks him out. Like Ali, age has slowed his legs. And like Ali, he's going to have to sit on his punches a lot more. Maybe he's too strong, too good for Victor. He definitely won't be bouncing around like he did against Castillo.

Agreed, he's put his body through a lot more strain than Martinez, who has only been fighting world level for a few years and had no amateur career. A lot of people don't understand that taking minimal punishment doesn't mean you don't age. I'd describe Floyd as past prime at this point, couple that with his layoff and hes got a tough fight on his hands, I'd be very shocked if this wasn't a competitive fight. On a side note, I've never seen that picture of Nkrumah and Sellasie before, good stuff

Whenever I think of this fight, Virgil Hunter's phrase re Froch about him being "surgically removed" from the fight comes into my head. Floyd's gonna take the sting out of Vic early and it's gonna be a procession.

Thanks - love that pic, man. There were Giants among us in those days. Sigh...

Anyway, agreed with the bolded. Unless Ortiz gets flattened by a punch he doesn't see coming (I don't know about that), this fight will be competitive. It has to be.

He hasn't faced this kind of speed & power in years. I mean years. Hatton was the last fighter that was somewhat dangerous that Floyd faced. Ortiz is bigger, stronger & faster than he is.

Don't be surprised to see Ortiz match Floyd's speed & pressure him constantly, don't be surprised to see Floyd hurt & wobbled quite a few times. When the final bell sounds, don't be surprised to here Floyd declared the winner even though after watching the fight you feel that Ortiz actually beat him.

Bookmark this, if I'm wrong I'll admit it, I always do. But I have a feeling deep down in my guy Ortiz will give Floyd 1 if not the toughest fight of his career & he may even win too.
man I hope you're right....I got Floyd stopping him though...TKO style...but I really wanna see Vic do well....very well!!!!

Ortiz is gonna get Ricky Hatton'd. The way he lunges = disaster.

May be competitive for the first four rounds or so, but Floyd is a master at adjusting. All he needs to do is measure Ortiz' speed, and it's ova

I don't think we'll be able to tell on Sep.17th even if he put on a Boxing clinic, Some Boxers will good against certain styles regardless if they're past-prime(Roy Jones-Jeff Lacy). Even if he do lose in the near future, i still think his style of boxing will allow him to continuously be a top level competitor at the age of 35-38 against B-level and C-level Boxers.
