That fight totally reinforced my opinion that the Maidana fight was an abberation, a learning curve..... and it pretty much confirmed to me that Vic had turned the corner and that type of situation will never occur again.

Also, it confirmed to me that Vic is a welter, not a JWW.

Exactly what happened, that left you with your impression ?
Well Lead, maybe he is seeing the samething I am...

Sure, Ortiz did his thing against Berto, but Maidana is not going to fall up against the ropes all fight, and pretty much cash it in and look for one big right hand (like Berto did, as Ortiz came forward)...Once he see's the fight is a bit tuffer than he might have expected.

Maidana will be in his chest all night! That is all he knows. It has yet to be proven if he can handle that (he failed in the first fight).

I think alot of people make their new found faith in Ortiz over Maidana based on the skills of both fighters. That is fair I guess, but they seem to factor out the fact that Maidana is as tuff as they come...Dude shows no sign of qiut, even when being out classed (and with the power he has, that is a potent mix). That is what beat Ortiz in the first fight. That is what made him get up in the first Round against Khan (a body shot the majority of fighters stay down from), and that is what made him go to war as Erik turned back the clock.

At this point, I don't know who would win the rematch...I really think 147 would play a huge factor in the fight though. As you said, Ortiz seems to be at home there...Maidana, not so much (in my eyes)...

Hell, Ortiz looked bigger than him in the first fight, so who knows.

This is not the surfer pretty boy image that he took on before Berto, after the Peterson fight he sounded as if he was done with boxing when the Berto fight completely changed that. As his first debut fight in 147 he took on a formidable legit undefeated WW, that second knock down was vicious and most thought it was the end. If the rematch is at 147, I take Ortiz via TKO/KO - if he fought with heart like he did in the Berto fight.
      You Sir are 100% correct.

But the thing is, it is not about dedication, or even determination.

His comments leading up to that fight were not " hopeful bravado ".

I know exactly what happened to Vic that night, and two comments that I heard in an interview a few months after that fight - from Richard Schaefer and Vic himself - convinced me that Ortiz not only knew what the problem was, but he had almost certainly fixed it and turned the corner.

Vic grew up in the ring that night, that fight turned him into a man.

He is definitely not the same kid that fought Maidana, and he is a much better fighter at 147.

There is no doubt in my mind that Vic would have lived up to the commitment that he made before that fight..... he promised that even if both of his eyebrows were cut wide open and blood was streaming down his face, he would never stop, he would never quit, and that Berto was going to have to kill him to stop him.

But bro, that was not dedication, that was something much better.

      That was ABSOLUTE self-belief.

I don't know how prepared he was - mentally or physically - heading into that fight, but I know one thing, he is no longer the green kid that fought Maidana.

Good luck Majin Buu, but I have a feeling that you could see a real nasty side of Vic in that fight.

*** you lot now I want that fight more than anything in the world

ive nevered question ortiz's boxing skills but his heart in this dangerous sport i did.not calling him a quitter but i did question his heart.after his performance at a confortable 147.and he did put the no defense maidana down twice in the first fight.ortiz beats down maidana at 147.

Absolutely, some great points there, but you are expecting exactly the same Maidana - which will likely be the case - to be fighting exactly the same Ortiz..... and I just don't think that's the case at all.

          The paradigm has changed.

Outboxing Maidana was not a blueprint that was set by Khan, that is a blueprint that was set by Maidana.

I made a number of posts immediately after that fight stating that Vic should be kicking himself because he damn near had that fight in the bag.

He just got ****** in to Maidana's fight. Yes the lack of an authoratitive jab was a factor, and yes that has been a criticism of Vic in the past, but go check a damn training video man, Vic has got a decent jab, and under-rated speed. He just fought like a green kid.

As I said earlier, I dunno how well prepared Ortiz was heading into that fight, or where his head was at..... but he aint no green kid anymore.

I am positive that he would box Maidana and try to break him down while clearing out the rounds, he needs to fight intelligently. Except I think that you would see a very very well-prepared Ortiz in that fight, and I think it could get nasty for chino.

He does not want to get touched up like he did in the first fight, because he cannot rely on Vic making the same mistakes, and he will have to KHTFO to stop him..... chino get's bashed for 12 rounds unless he stops Vic in that fight, and I can't see that happening.

            I will make a call.....

I got Vic by tko (corner stoppage) in round 7 or 8.

The new Vic boxes real smart, establishes the perimeter, makes him miss, then makes him pay.

He needs to work on becoming a thinking fighter to compliment his style.

            Experience is the key.

Great win for Ortiz vs Berto, but what did he do against Peterson?

My sentiments exactly, Maidana doesn't need to earn any rematch. Vic's loss was far worse than the Khan's, big punches can catch a fighter cold early etc...but Maidana broke Vic's will so badly he made him question his livelihood as a prize fighter. If Vic has any heart he'd just sign the fight and shut him up for good.

btw... I don't even think el chino is that good

Ha HA at everyone thinking maidana rematch would be easy for ortiz, Ortiz is scared ****less of Maidana has proved by all all the negative comennts coming out of Ortz dismissing Maidana has a worthy opponent even though he made him quit like a puto.

I would slightly favour Ortiz at 147 but Maidana is one tough bastard and would apply the pressure on Ortiz the whole fight, there will no clinching for 6 rounds, there will no lying on the ropes letting Ortiz tee off for 2 mins each round like berto did, this would be a great fight and i hope it gets made.

Oh and for maidana having to earn a shot at Welterwight title, what did ortiz do to get a title shot in the first place?, atleast Maidana actually has a win over the current champion lol.

That was Berto last stand after that he was fighting to survive.

Maidana doesn't know how to fight to survive he'll keep coming and coming. He won't stop putting pressure on Ortiz and if Ortiz fights him like he did Berto, Ortiz will quit again or get KTFO.
Not gonna happen next time. At 147 Victor has entered the massive WW category. He made Berto look like a kid in there... Next time, Maidana will not last six rounds... Too easy to hit...

                    Just real talk bro...

I am! He's been soooo annoying lately and I can't wait to see him effed up by Ortiz or anyone else worth anything, which is gonna happen. Even the faded Erik laid a beating on him, but not enuff.
