If I was ricky I would be trying to get him into position to fight one of the weaker welter champs, zaveck (or malignaggi if he picks up a belt), and once he has that belt you cash him out against amir khan at 147 that is the only way matthew will get a big pay day.

You don't see how anyone can call him a bum?

How about the fact he lost to David Kirk? Who retired with a record of 11-75?

Or maybe that he got stopped in 2 rounds by David Kier? A guy who retired with a record of 4-6?

Or maybe the fact that in the prime of his career one of his best performances is a draw with Lovemore N'Dou? A fight that could have gone either way that I felt N'dou won.

Or maybe its that he got dominated by Craig Watson who was coming off a knockout loss and then Watsons fight after he beat Hatton he lost again.

Or maybe its that he gets utterly dominated every single round against an unproven 20 year old?

Or maybe its the fact he hasn't beaten anyone that is considered better than average in his entire career.

The guy is a bum, he's got heart and you have to admire that. However that doesn't change the fact he is a bum.

'Throwing combo's & decent defense' doesn't quite cut it.

I think your idea of a bum and most other peoples in this thread is different. Those loses you mention were early in his career, watson aside. He barely had an amateur career and started boxing at a very late age you could say a lot of his learning curve came in the pros. In spite of all those loses he has he still went on to win a european title, which is a good accomplishment. There are many other fighters especially here in britain who have had stellar amateur careers and not done half of what matt hatton has. I was at the craig watson fight (hatton-lazcano undercard) and I thought he was done, that he wouldn't ever even win a british title, but he has proved people wrong, he has shown a hell of lot of character when a lot of people were probably telling him to retire.

Lovemore ndou is a good fighter he hasn't been a walkover for anyone, he was coming off a win and previously a pretty good performance in losing against kermit cintron. It is all about levels and you wouldn't expect hatton to dominate a guy like n'dou. The best Hatton can expect is a world title against a weak champion and if that makes him a bum then based on your opinion 75% of the fighters out there are bums. Thats not how boxing works dude.

Never really been a fan to be honest, but was impressed with his resolve. Alvarez caught him with some big shots, but he took them and im glad he lasted the full 12 rounds.

He was out-classed from start to finish but i thought Hatton caught Alvares with some decent shots from time to time, and if he was a bigger puncher may of hurt Alvarez.

Alvarez was to big and strong for him though, so i think moving back down to 147 is a good move.

Yeah they were early in his career but he hasn't done anything to outweigh them. He literally doesn't have a single good win on his resume and pathetic losses.

The most prestigous thing of his career is a European Title. Doesn't take a world beater to win the European title.

Lovemore N'dou is a decent fighter, and has been a walk over for many fighters. Matthew Hatton got a draw with him at the tail end of an almost 20 year career. In one of his biggest fights of his career. You wouldn't expect Hatton to dominate him because he's a **** fighter.

If Matthew Hatton is a bum how does that make 75% of boxers bums? He isn't even in the Top 100 out of today's active fighters.

That was the first Matt Hatton fight I saw and while I'm not a fan, he's a tough guy and tried to win so I respect him for that.

I don't think he has much of a chance at winning a title at WW. I think he might be able to have a decent career being a gate keeper though.

                    Mannnn, if only.

If only Ricky had the chin of a guy who got stopped in 2 rounds by the 4-6 warrior David Kier.

If only Ricky had the chin of a guy who got dropped recently by the brutal 40% KO ratio puncher Yuriy Nuzhenko.

Maybe that would have stopped Ricky getting stopped by Urango, Tszyu, Lazcano and Collzao. Who are all bigger punchers and stonger fighters than anyone Matthew has ever fought. Lets not forget Ricky gets hit literally 10x more than Matthew.

Mannnn if only Ricky had Matthews Iron chin.

He has only wins over gatekeepers who were past their best, but I think ndou still had plenty left when hatton fought him, it was a good performance the old hatton would have got dominated by that ndou so that performance has shown what a marked improvement he has made.

It may not take a world beater to win a european title, but "bums' don't win them either. The only time I have seen someone walk over n'dou was when he fought malignaggi but he did better in the rematch. Cotto, sharmba mitchell, junior witter, among others have struggled big time with him albeit maybe a better version. He wouldn't need to be near the top 100 of all fighters for you to be calling 75% of fighters bums, do you have any idea how many fighters there are out there?? Boxing is about levels, Hatton is still ranked in the top 20-30 in HIS division, and if you think anyone that reaches that level is a bum then you reveal your own ignorance, you are like the majority of posters here you only watch championship boxing. But the difference is most guys don't call fighters who fall short at world level and only reach european level or nabf (gatekeeper level) bums. Those guys are not bums, I would like to see you go in with someone like that and then tell me after if you still think he is a bum.
