hit and not get hit is fine. hit = offense; not get hit = defense. it's a perfect combination but it should be proportionate. too much offense without much defense is dumb. too much defense without much offense is boring.

I've seen volume punchers who don't stop throwing punches, but the connect percentage is in the single digits, and isn't effective.. hence that is boring to me.
On the flipside, when you have guys like Floyd or a prime Roy Jones, who didn't throw a lot of punches, but their accuracy and effectiveness when they did throw was second to none, and it made you sit on the edge of your seat to see the next time they threw a punch.
It's all subjective.

I agree with reed here. Besides, what was more thrilling then watch Ray drive Duran completely ****in insane the 2nd fight. I hate Leonard but that was a psychological masterpiece.

respectfully, the main objective is to win, get paid, and not get hurt so you can continue to do your job!
with regards to being entertained, i'm talking on the perspective of boxing fan not a fighter because obviously i'm not a fighter. i will not spend my money to watch a fight if i know first hand that it's going to be boring. i'm not stopping the fighters from protecting their health or if they want to reduce (not avoid totally) the risk of fighting. all i'm saying is it's a give and take process. a fighter should not go in the ring with money in their mind but neglecting the idea of prroviding the paying fans what they want to see.

I never heard of a fighter coming into a fight with a "GAME PLAN TO ENTERTAIN" hahaha I heard of fighters coming in with a "GAME PLAN TO WIN" lol
guys don't train to "ENTERTAIN" last time I checked
these guys want to win and you have a choice which fighter you want to watch and which fighters PPV you want to order, some people act like these fighters owe you something personally just because they ordered their PPV as if the fighters FORCED THEM to purchase their PPV
I am a FAN OF BOXING not a damn FAN OF A CERTAIN STYLE, even styles I don't like I still watch because I enjoy the sport of BOXING and I respect and understand that mostly every brings something different to the sport, I wouldn't want to watch a bunch of guys all fighting the exact same wayLast edited by sicko; 08-20-2010, 02:37 PM.

I find this logic very hard to understand. I go to work thinking about getting the job done the best way so I can take care of my responsibilities. I expect a boxer to do the same when he is working. If my winning means the fans lose something so be it. Boxers have families and bills and responsibilities to take care of. If they can't continue to work they can't provide for their families.
respectfully this is like the Bugs Bunny/daffy duck cartoon. Daffy drank all that poison and blew himself up. the crowd cheered and cheered. as daffy's soul floated upwards he said to Bugs, "I can only do this trick one time".
Ever think about it like that?

Wow.
Daffy was lying, though... he can do it over and over.
