h brings up some good points.....the fans make too much of an UD record.....it's not the be all and end all.....he is right about Floyd using it wisely to promote his fights though.

The one thing i do take issue with is this:


Merchant thinks you have to be in wars and dramatic fights to be great.....and i don't believe that for a second.....it helps...but he mentioned sweet pea........he is top 15 on almost every ATG list......was he ever in dramatic fights??? No not really. If this was the "true" basis for greatness Arturo Gatti would be GOAT hands down.....but he's not.

Is it Mayweather fault these other guys can't force him into a "dog fight"??? The only fighter i think could have done it a few years back was Plaserito......or Shane if they fought at 135....but that wasn't going to happen...Shane was struggling to mae weight and moved up to make the real $$$ vs Oscar.

I think people need to give Floyd his credit....he deserves it......

I respectfully disagree.larry's perception will be that because he is biased IMO. He knows why Bob won't make deals for his fighters to fight floyd but he never admits it.

Most reasonable fans and especially the mainstream media will wonder why manny didn't take tests that every other professional and amatuer athlete takes.

HAHAHAH the only athletes that took it are Olympians + Shane + Floyd.......That isnt even 1% of the athletes out there so stop stretching the truth

Please check your history. Or just check this site or youtube. Shane told larry merchant he wouldn't fight floyd because he had to get a toooth fixed. Larry's look was priceless.

The real issue was shane wanted $10 mil and floyd wasn't a draw at that point.

Merchant just doesn't like Floyd, its so obvious. All the old school types who are always like 'he's never been in a war, he's not a real fighter'.... they just can't seem to grasp the simple concept - he is that godd, he doesn't need to be in a war! He is a pure boxer, and that is the sport isn't it? It's called boxing, not 'warring', or 'fighting'. If he is in a hard fight though, he's got the stones, he's proved it before, but detractors choose to overlook it. Go and watch his fight against Chavez on youtube.
All the ducking Margarito, Cotto etc. stuff is a load of bull as well - like the man himself says, 'all roads lead to Floyd Mayweather'. Maybe in the 50's and 60's, it was a case of 'just fight everyone', but Merchant should know that times have changed, to expect it to be like that now is just naive. You need to take into account the context of when Floyd could have fought Margarito and the others - purses, risk, reward, pulling power of opponent etc. The fact is we all know he would school Margarito, Cotto and the others anyway if they ever fought, just like he did to Mosely.

Floyd "calls" every fighters out once yet doesnt fight them............Shane has been doing if for 5-6 YEARS papi YEARS, met him face to face like in the Marquez fight, and yets it took Floyd 6 years to agree to fight him.

So i think the dozens of times Shane called him out is more then Floyds 1 time
