Can I say it now without people calling me crazy?

Paul Williams is the most overrated fighter on Boxingscene and in Boxing.

I've been saying it since day one and most people called me crazy. After tonight they may be more willing to eat their words.

People were saying that no one from 147-160 poses even a CHALLENGE to Paul Williams. I think Martinez showed tonight that he was much more than a challenge.

Let's just stop overrating fighters OK?

How can you call it a robbery when you say it was a close fight? The 119-110was a joke, but Williams won. I had it 116-112. It was a damn good fight.

What's overrated about him is his chin.

Martinez hurt him several times. And after the knockdown he wasn't recovered till the 3rd.

Aside from that, he is what he is. A volume puncher who gets hit.

He had a hard fight against a though, slick belt-holder and gave Sergio the first legit* loss of his career. Clearly overrated.

*Sergio won IMO, but the scores are the scores

I'll first say that I scored it for Martinez 117-114 (three even rds), but I disagree that Williams is overrated. He just fought an exceptional fighter in Sergio Martinez, and in some eyes won. At the very least, you must admit that he gave Martinez all he could take. Just because Martinez wasn't a household name outside his country, doesn't mean that he isn't an elite fighter. Regardless of how you scored it, Williams gave Martinez hell for every second of every round. He still needs to improve his defense, but I think he showed that he has a very good chin and recuperative powers to go along with an insane work rate and stamina. He remains a nightmare matchup for ANYONE from WW-MW.

Incidentally, if PW has such a weak chin as some people seem to think, then why is the man able to take such clean shots and keep applying pressure? Paul Williams doesn't have anything close to a weak chin; just ****ty defense.

It's not that P. Williams has a weak chin or no defense. It's that before the fight over 90% of Boxingscene had Williams knocking Martinez out and pretty much acknowledged that Martinez was bum.

People all over boxing said that Williams was the most feared man in boxing and that he had frozen 3 divisions. IMO Williams got exposed tonight as being vulnerable. He's no longer the monster people thought he was.

Let's see how many belt holders line up for a fight with PW then. Fighters desperate to make a name for themselves may call him out, but nobody with a belt is going to breathe his name in public. He has his flaws (and they were exposed before tonight btw), but he is still going to give absolute hell to anyone he fights.

Btw, 90% of Boxingscene members were picking PW to destroy Martinez because 90% of Boxingscene members had no idea who Sergio Martinez was. So maybe it's not that PW is so overrated, but that Martinez was so underrated.
