if no nakatani then surely no bam either. then there's no reason to fight at super bantamweight anymore (goodman nor anybody else). move up for a belt at 126 and retire. everything besides junto, bam and a trinket at 126 is meaningless.
Just for clarification, what Ohashi said specifically is that there will be 3 fights (not 4) in 2025 for Inoue and Nakatani will not be the opponent for late 2025. He didn't say Inoue and Nakatani won't be fighting at all in the future, like this article implies.
The first fight for Inoue in 2025 is the Goodman fight that got moved to Jan 24th.
The second fight is still planned to be in Vegas for April/May, which Ohashi said the date and plan wasn't affected by Goodman injury.
The third fight, which Ohashi specifically said is in the fall that is "Saudi related" which is more specific and different from what he used to say "Inoue is open to fighting in Saudi if the chance comes by", is what I think adjusted the potential Nakatani fight from end of 2025. I think Ohashi/Turki made a more stronger agreement since the sponsorship agreement and is now semi-official that Inoue is fighting in Saudi during Riyadh season next year.
All rumors point to Vegas being Picasso, and frankly at this point I have come to accept that it will unfortunately be Picasso and not MJ. The catch here is that when considering "fall", Riyadh season is from October to February in Saudi. Given that there was absolutely zero chance Inoue-Nakatani were to occur anywhere outside Tokyo, that makes it so that Saudi will either be MJ or featherweight.
1) Jan Tokyo Goodman, April/May Vegas Picasso, Oct? Saudi MJ, spring 2026 Tokyo Nakatani, summer/fall featherweight
2) Jan Tokyo Goodman, April/May Vegas Picasso, Oct? Saudi featherweight
Both has its merits and demerits.
The first one means that Inoue will get Nakatani in 122, but push the move to 126 until 2026. He will end up fighting 8 times in 3 yrs at 122, which is actually on par with the number of fights he did in his first three divisions (7, 8, and 9 respectively).
The second one means Nakatani doesn't happen unless he comes up to featherweight before Inoue retires. However with the amount of people who's been crying for Inoue to hurry up and go to 126, making it happen next fall isn't as bad especially since the potential opponents in 126 are all better than MJ.
Why no Nakatani fight in 2025? This is pure bullsh** !!! This is why boxing is dying on the vine. I bet this is Bob's machinations. Ole Hook Nose up to his usual tricks.
