Madrimov could refuse just like Boots refused, but why would he? He's finally getting paid what he deserves and Turki likes him. From here on end, if Madrimov keeps fighting for Turki and impressing he's pretty much set...
I'm pretty certain that the contract he has with Eddie is not as financially generous as the one Boots signed with Eddie. Boots can turn down a Turki fight and make somewhere around 2 million per fight with Eddie. Madrimov only made $750k to fight Bud while Madrimov was the Champion and the money came from Turki. Madrimov is trying to make as much money as he can while he still can.
It's only obvious that those were Virgil's intentions all along. Virgil should be ashamed of himself!!
We received an offer, about three days ago, for the fight [to be] at 147. Not from us, not us trying to get the fight at 147. That is how it was written in the offer to us. We took it back to Jaron, obviously that’s fine with us. We went back to them and said, ‘yes, we’ll accept, but are you sure this is at 147?’ They went away, they came back, and they said, ‘no, we’ve spoken to Golden Boy, sorry, it would be at 154, you’ve got to vacate your title.’ This is a big decision, this was about 24 to 48 hours ago. On Thanksgiving, we were asked to make a decision, and his [Boots] answer was, ‘I just don’t know. I’m not ready to make a decision on whether or not I’m going to vacate my belt.’”
That's Hearns's story, btw.
Like I said, the math ain't mathing on either end. If you feel like Boots should have jumped at the opportunity regardless, then cool.
I haven't seen anyone - not Turki or anyone - refuting the 147 claim.
The 147 discrepancy is believable but easily corrected and the fight could have still been made if Boots wanted to pursue the fight.
The necessity to vacate the title is not believable because Karen was Boots' mandatory and has now the freedom to take a fight at 154 without giving up the title.
Boots is on record saying that he was unaware of the negotiations for a Virgil fight. That is also not believable...
If Boots wanted to fight Virgil he would have signed. He didn't want to fight, no big deal, I'd don't mind watching him unify 147. He doesn't even have to address not wanting to fight Virgil, but don't come out and say you were't aware of the negotiations to fight Virgil. No one's conspiring behind his back, not his dad nor Eddie.
I personally was hoping to see Boots fight Virgil and thought he would edge out a tough 12 round fight.
"But according to Curtis, Virgil's the villain trying to bully Boots into fighting him and now is demanding that Madrimov fight him with only 8 weeks to prepare.
It's only obvious that those were Virgil's intentions all along. Virgil should be ashamed of himself!!"
I was agreeing with you and addressing Curtis' claim that Virgil was somehow forcing Madrimov to fight with only 8 weeks of preparation time.
I knew they would avoid Zayas. Madrimov will be on an 8 week turnaround, which makes zero sense. It's obvious how cowardly Eddie, Fishnets, Bob and Al are. Notice how no one at 154 ever mentions Conwell or Zayas.
Virgil ain't asking for nothing. He will fight anyone, anytime.
You sure about that? What happens after Serhii beats Madrimov in a couple weeks, which he will do. Will Virgil offer the rematch to Serhii who clearly was robbed in their last fight? Or, does Turki keep a two fight consecutive loser with Virgil ? Do you now see e what’s happening with Virgil’s staged advantages????

His time will come, but Virgil/Madrimov makes for sense for the Feb Riyadh card.
What makes sense is offering Serhii the rematch after he was robbed back in August. Serhii will beat Madrimov in a couple weeks.. and you’ll probably still say this fight with Virgil makes sense.
