while I fully believe in upholding the law(and what he did was illegal, and it was illegalfor good reason, make no mistake about it) 10 years in prison is simply overkill. there is no way in hell that Kirkland would have come out of prison a better person. his chance at a boxing career would have been completely over, and he probably would have turned it crime yet again due to the influence of the other inmates.

imo, prison should not be about 'punishment'. it should be strictly about preventing crime. and that means keeping the worse criminals behind bars and making sure those convicted turn to crime again.
10 years of prison for something like this would have done no one any good.

Great post, honestly Kirkland needs to get the hell out of Austin period. I'm from the streets like these guys are and being in your environment where people know you and hater are jealous, someone is gonna give you a reason to pick a gun up again. He could train where he wants but he needs to pack his things and either move to Cali or a another spot in Texas although I would leave Texas all together

Why? More black men were incarcerated under Reagan's reign than any other president in recent times and many of his policies that are still in place today continue to unfairly incarcerate black men. Reagan attacked civil rights, opened an assault on affirmative action, social welfare programs and of course the "war on drugs" was extremely racist (a white man caught with ******* would get a slap on the wrist, a blackman with a little bit of crack rock would get 5-10 years min.), etc.

Reagan was the ultimate douchebag and the entire reason he was elected in the first place was the "good old boys" from the south (KKK, etc.) endorsed him. In other words, Reagan was himself racist.

who cares, Reagan was a good president.

I dont believe he was racist. people like to look at things out of context.

I like Kirkland & Anne Wolfe, they've had it so rough you cant help but to cheer for them to make it.

Hopefully Kirkland can do what he can do to stay in shape. The article points out he looked about 40 pounds heavier. I'd imagine the depression of being locked up and not knowing if you're going to get out for another 10 years or not was very unmotivating. Well, now he he knows he could be back in 10 months, there is light at the end of the tunnel. He needs to stay in physical shape while in there, do everything he can to lose that weight and stay as fit as possible.

Seriously? This is a boxing forum. Further, the "Black man from the streets" committed the crime. No one else! What was he doing with a gun? Nevermind, it is obviously all black and white with you.

                    Back to the boxing....

                    Descent prospect I guess.

But some questions about his chin and his defense. His discipline is a question mark to me. Is he the legitimate one punch type of puncher they make him out to be or he is more of a Jacobs or Berto type that loses his elite punching power when the comp gets more stiff.

I would like to see him fight the guy who is sparring Manny right now.
