Doesn’t that somewhat prove my point though, Broner was following the Mayweather blueprint and one loss essentially derailed any star he had. The main reason I don’t think Floyd was as big as star as Oscar was is because I don’t believe he could overcome 5 losses and still remain a star.

I think that’s what sets Ali, Mike and Oscar apart, their stardom was far less dependent on success.
I totally agree that IF he lost he wouldn't have held his star power but that doesn't mean he is a lesser star than someone that can.

It just means that they're marketability is for different reasons.

Fair enough then mate. I can’t argue with that.

        Nice back and forth brother.

You going Smith-Eubank? You know those lads don't you?

My mate has a ticket for me but I'm not interested to be honest.

Man could you imagine Oscar coming up from jmw and taking on prime GGG for mw supremacy in the social media Era? Aw man it would be absolutely humongous.

And with Oscar you know the fight goes down because this guy didn't duck anybody. Would not make those I'm too small excuses like Floyd did.

Probably, I haven’t got a ticket yet either but will be able to grab one. My sister and her fella are going, it’s on her Birthday so they’re having a night out in Manchester and going the boxing, I might tag along.

It’s not a fight I’m super keen on either though tbh, I obviously get why Liam’s taken it but I’d much rather have seen him look to get another title shot at 154.

Whereas with Oscar, Ray etc it always felt like they were being groomed to be the face of boxing.
True , the lack of a gold medal made the start of his career leas big. Same as Roy and Tyson. Yet they both made it to the top of the p4p lists relatively quickly.

It was clear they were both the best in their Olympics despite no Gold.

Yes, they both were because those were the times when a Gold medal meant instant publicity and hype for almost every US Gold Medalist.

Oscar would probably be the most popular fighter of all time it he was fighting today in his prime. All the women came to see him fight, it would be insane. All of his fights would be filled with tik tok hoes, insta hoes and OF s l u t s.

                  1. Ali.
                  2. Tyson.
                  3. Oscar.
Nah, Oscar not bigger than Joe Louis

Joe Louis had the entire nation including the President of the United States calling him to beat Max Schmelling

Hell, the whole world was rooting for him to beat Hitler & The ****s

He was a war hero, America's first Black superstar, and the heavyweight champ for 12 years when there was only 1 champion

By far the biggest star in all of sports for the entirety of the 1940s.

He's like if you crossed Michael Jordan with what The Klitschkos are doing in Ukraine right now.

And Sugar Ray Leonard's gotta get some consideration too.

He was making the equivalent of $30 million back when the HW champ (Holmes) was making peanuts in comparison

Even adjusted for the time period ODH biggest fight was Floyd. Meanwhile, he’s Floyd’s 4th biggest fight.

You sure ODH was more popular than Leonard?
Yeah, but more people were watching boxing in the '90s than in the 2010s when Floyd was at his peak celebrity.

When Oscar was fighting, athletes were legit celebrities.

                  I think it's close though.

Oscar was the biggest star when boxing was still a top 4 or 5 sport in America

Floyd was the biggest star when boxing was more of a niche sport and he was the only real star in it.

                  I guess they're about even.

As for the question, Oscar would be absolutely HUGE today with Oscar the way he was in say 1997.

A handsome, Mexican-American, gold medal winner, who fights everybody between 130-160.

People forget Oscar was basically Justin Bieber in the mid '90s. Guy was everything that Ryan Garcia is plus what Canelo is, but better than both

BUT, if he was fighting today.

He wouldn't be fighting as often or against the best so often.

All of his flaws and kinks would be on full display, so there's the chances of him getting canceled for doing something that was covered up in the pre-internet era
