Is HBO killing boxing?

Why did it take JC so long to get on HBO? The network works with certain promoters it's all in-house.

its about talent and draw... and if you are pricing yourself out of what you are bringing in, then you wont get any work...

say you're in the biz of building houses... and you want 1.5 mill to build a house... you believe you make the best houses and that its worth it...

BUT if someone who is looking to buy a house can get one of the same style and same quality for say 500k then they will go with that...

I'm referring to Calzaghe who had no HBO exposure for years. And the house argument is flawed because the top fighters never take paycuts the last I can remember was JMM and he lost.

ESPN2 Friday Night Fights series has put on some great fights this year. The season finale on Aug. 28 will feature a doubleheader with Juan Urango vs Randall Bailey and Clinton Woods vs Tavoris Cloud.

Versus has put on a couple of good cards this year as well.

Boxing is still alive you just have to know where to look for it. ESPN and Versus are trying to do their part. Showtime has also stepped with the super six tournament. HBO had some great fights lined up for this year that fell apart. David Haye vs Vladamir Klitschko is one that comes to mind.

In other words no HBO is not killing boxing. The greed of some of the stars is definitely hurting the sport though.

They need to stop having ppv's like Pavlik Rubio and Cotto-Jennings. They need to make the undercard fights a little more competitive, with fights that actually mean something. Have like one, maybe 2, prospects fight first. They should branch out further than HBO. I hate how I see someone like Yuri Foreman in the spotlight more than Mike Jones. I dunno, I just wish some **** was ran different.

Sean O Grady and Marv Albert were the best duo boxing has ever seen. And YES, HBO is holding boxing back, but boxing is in no way dying. Showtime has laid the gauntlet with the super six tourney. HBO has become not much more then a promoter of it's own fighters.

totally agree with everything you said. It seems like Julio Cesar Chavez jr. is headlining a payperview every other month.

I think most payperviews need to start having a co main event and a decent undercard.
