It's hard to expect guys to make less I mean look at the greedy Mayweather calling his $2 mil a fight contract a "slave contract" about 10 years ago when he was only known to hardcore fans.

Thats because high profile fighters expect huge paydays. Boxers and the sport need to get out of that mindset and adapt to the economy and the sports popularity. Till that happens you will see the same cycle of fighters fighting less and looking for that one big pay day.

          I agree with that...

Every fighter thinks that one HBO showcase and an ESPN feature warrant them to make Millions upon Millions. Meanwhile, we've been seeing all these up and coming "Stars" catching L's early against guys we don't even know.

HBO is single-handedly propping up boxing.

without HBO none of the big fights would ever happen.

Once HBO abandons boxing, boxing is ****ed up the ass.

it has to start with the olympics.

that's when boxers get their first exposure as an amateur.

they don't even broadcast boxing matches on network tv for the olympics anymore.

with all the cable channels now boxing just ain't gonna draw huge ratings.

network tv also doesn't like the unpredictability of boxing matches.

sponsors will pay for certain number of spots but if it's a 1st round ko , the network get screwed.

boxing just can't make it in america anymore on network tv. remember some tv shows get cancelled for low ratings have millions upon millions of viewers. i doubt boxing could compete with that. there's more hockey fans in america than boxing fans and hockey can't even get ratings.
