Calzaghe Rejects Golden Boy Offer For Hopkins Rematch

As for shocking decisions, every single boxing expert who had Hopkins winning said it was extremely close, and no extremely close fight that doesn't go the way you think it should can be called a shocking decision. A shocking decision is when one fighter clearly won decisively, in the opinion of all boxing experts, and still lost on the official cards. That's not what happened here.
Originally posted by Dave Rado View PostBecause Hopkins only landed one or two clean punches per round. Calzaghe landed a lot more, and although they were less effective, they still cumulatively count for something. And I'm not going by Compubox. And instead of criticising me for "admitting" that Hopkins landed more effective punches, why not give me credit for being honest?
Originally posted by Dave Rado View PostYou are missing the point, I didn't say The Ring is right and you're wrong. I'm saying plenty of boxing experts gave it to Calzaghe, it wasn't just the judges. That doesn't mean you're wrong, it just means plenty of experts disagree with you. So you can't say it was just some incompetent judges. And even the experts who agreed with you said it was extremely close, so you can't call it a robbery, or a shocking decision.
Originally posted by Dave Rado View PostIt wasn't Lampley, it was Harold Lederman, and again, whatever you think of him, my point was simply that plenty of well qualified people didn't share your opinion, so you can't say it was just the incompetance of the official judges.
Ps. I think a number of actual boxers who scored the fight, scored it for hopkins, tyson was one of them, there was a link about it once, cant find it now tho. I think Dan rafeal from ESPN scored the fight the same way I did too.Last edited by Technical_Skill; 03-08-2009, 01:41 PM.

My scoring of fights is seriously accurate, 114-113 Hopkins, hopkins winning cos of the KD.
You'd be surprised how many people cant tell the difference between landed and blocked punches. Some of these judges are crazy and shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a ring.

Originally posted by Technical_Skill View PostBecause many of thse punches you are crediting him with landing, were hitting gloves, missing, i dont score those punches, but I think the judges and other people did.
Originally posted by Technical_Skill View PostI never called it a robbery, it was a close fight, but again, 116-111 for calzaghe? that judge is crazy.
If you had said "I didn't like the 116-111 scorecard, but I admit the decision could have gone either way, although I thought Hopkins won narrowly," then I wouldn't have had any issue with that, but that wasn't what you originally said by a long way.

there is no way joe would risk losing for the first time in front of his home fans in wales by fighting some one as dangerous as hopkins.... which i feel would be the case if they fought again!!!! id enjoy it tho

Originally posted by Dave Rado View PostYou implied it was a robbery by saying something like "how could anyone possibly score it to Calzaghe?" That implies robbery. If all you're complaining about is the 116-111 scorecard, that's fair enough, but if that judge had scored it 114-113, the end result would have been the same.
Close fight, but I dont believe he deserved the decision I almost guarantee had the roles been reversed, you guys would have been going crazy about Americans robbing calzaghe and demanding a rematch.
