Apart from knock him down in round 1, land the cleaner more effective punches all night long and have calzaghe swinging and missing for the majority of the fight.

Calzaghe won the fight cos idiot judges give rounds to a guy based on how many punches he throws, they dont care if they land or not. If you score that fight on CLEAN and EFFECTIVE punches LANDED.

Calzaghe didnt win that fight, thus why some wanna see a rematch.

That's because styles make fights. Calzaghe's basically a spoiler, so is Hopkins, so any fight between them is going to be ugly, and they'll always look bad against each other. Jones is also a counter-puncher, and so is Calzaghe, so they cancel each other out. Calzaghe looks good against aggressive fighters who want to mix it up with him. He's been in plenty of exciting fights, but those two fighters' styles just make him look bad.

As I keep saying, it's a different point in his career. At that time he was motivated because he hadn't already achieved what he wanted to achieve. Now, he feels he has, and he's older, and mentally ready to retire. As I keep saying, he made it clear that if he'd continued, Dawson would have been his next fight. Also, he had planned long ago to retire in November - the fact that he reconsidered for two months is a compliment to Dawson - he wouldn't have even considered postponing his retirement for anyone else.

Jones does nothing for his legacy but he had wanted to fight Jones for years, but for whatever reason (boxing politics, because he was tied to Showtime, Roy was tied to HBO, and because Warren screwed it up) it didn't come off; and he genuinely thought after the Trinidad fight that Jones still had something left in the tank after all. He fought Jones because of what it meant to him, not for some mythical legacy.

In any case, before the Jones fight, most people were saying he should fight Pavlik rather than Jones, very few were saying he should fight Dawson back then.
