Not really,Chad wasnt on the radar at that time,and Kessler had two belts.If Joe was to come back,the only fight I want to see is with Dawson.I am hoping he really makes a statement this year as this might tempt Joe out of retirement.Most of the naysayers only mentioned hopkins age after the fight,called it "experience" when it came to pavlik,and will call it age if joe fights b-hop again.Pointless fight that does nothing for him win or lose.

Chad wasn't on the radar until he beat Tarver in October when the RJJ fight was already set up; something those who accuse Calzaghe of 'ducking' him seem to always conveniently forget. Had Tarver won that nobody would even be mentioning JC and Dawson in the same sentence, just telling us how Calzaghe had been 'ducking' Tarver!

I wont bad mouth joe but I will say this. Back in the day if you fought a guy and won but 50% of the world thinks that you didnt you would rematch the guy to prove 2 everyboby. Thats what real fighters did. Hell even floyd did that for JLC. But I will ask this if the situation was reverse I think calzaghe fans would be saying something different. If joe would of dropped hopkins in the 1st and the hops went on to win a close split decision they all would be screaming for a rematch and they would have good right too. But besides that Hops was the champ. If someone came up from 160 and fought and beat joe at 168 and took his belt wouldnt he want/deserve a rematch bein he was champ. So why do all the rules change for joe? Hey if he doesnt wanna fight then fine but dont make it seem like you have nothing left to prove because you do. If anything joe should be ashamed that he got put on his butt by an old man and want to do something about it. But imo i dont think joe has that kind of heart. He never did. Thats why it took him so long to fight someone of relevance.

I would not want to see that again regardless of the first outcome.I thought he was a clear winner,a lot of others dont see it that way,but it was one of the worst world title bouts I have ever seen,and even if Calz had lost I wouldnt want to see it again.

Can you imagine them, what would they have said if Hopkins said "I dont do rematches"

Just rediculous, People diss mayweather, after the castillo 1 thing, what did he do? Give castillo another shot.

Vernon Forrest took shanes mosley's 0 and then said "thanks for giving me the chance man, thanks, you can have the rematch anytime you want", and he gave him that rematch.

And countless other examples, that Hopkins decision was razor thin, personally, I had it for hopkins by 1 point (for the knockdown), I know BBC radio 5 live were ****ting themselves and had it for hopkins too.

Perhaps hops thought he might get robbed or summin and didnt wanna fight him outside of america or summin.

Who has ever said Hopkins was scared? Of course he wasn't scared. He didn't want the fight in 2002 for whatever reason, but Calzaghe did get into serious negotiations with him to try to make it happen, getting as far as contracts being verbally agreed and drawn up, and he deserves credit for seriously trying to make the fight, that's the point. He can't be blamed for the fact that the fight didn't come off, and yet the haters in these threads do blame him.

He dominated an admittedly weak division for many years. He tried to get fights with some big names outside his division, but for whatever reason the fights didn't happen. In world ATG terms, he will not rank with the Haglers and Leonards, but he will rank one or maybe two levels below them. In UK ATG terms he'll be in the top 5 or so. In British terms, he'll be thought of as a legend, in world terms he'll be thought of as great but not as an ATG. And the majority of Calzaghe fans do see it that way, although a few over-rate him. But the haters who keep posting here diminish his achievements completely irrationally. He had a great career, better than most boxers, and he's now retired, and that's all there is to it.

He hasnt achieved that much yet.I am so dissapointed that there was a rematch clause with tarver.I like Chad,and stylistically I think him and Joe match well,but to say Joe is ducking him,well you are saying exactly the same thing about B-hop in 2002.It is what it is,and its all about money.I never said B-hop ducked Joe,you assumed that,what he did was renege on a deal he had already made and ask for double,and thats about greed,not about fear.
