Roy is really gunna take it to Joe, he looked good against Trinidad, albeit a very old and overweight Trinidad. I wish this fight was at 168 though, for all the marbles. If Roy could reclaim the UNDISPUTED 168 lb title after everything he's done, that's the type of **** you see in Hollywood movies.

The reality is that Pavlik is on paper no better than either of those.
Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to see Joe fight Kelly than RJJ, but this notion that Joe is ducking Pavlik is ludicrous, he is the two weight titleholder, he is the one undefeated for ten years, and you guys act as though Kelly is clearly the superior fighter.
As for RJJ, you say he's never been outboxed? How about the 1st and 3rd Tarver fights? Roy is too old now and I don't agree that he will be a tough opponent for Joe, but since it will be the biggest payday in Joe's career, against a fighter who is a true legend, I can't begrudge Joe wanting to fight him.
I think he will face Pavlik down the line too. Unless Kelly gets beat in the mean time that is.Last edited by Chase8400; 06-15-2008, 03:42 PM.

I don't blame Joe for fighting Roy instead of Kelly. It would be a career high payday for Joe, enough money to secure the future for his family and a few generations of Calzaghe's. plus the fight on paper with Roy is low risk(which i don't think it is IMO)
Joe has a right to a big payday, then stick his neck out and outclass Kelly Pavlik.
Roy Jones is the tougher fight IMO. Mark my works and bookmark it. Roy is capable of beating Joe.
The criticising Calzaghe at every opportunity, and even inventing stuff is soo obsessive it's unreal, I struggle to take anyone seriously whom is soo intent on undermining an entire career, or turning everything into something negative on someone. It's taken over the forums this week, and the only thing it leaves you thinking is, children hating, being biased, ranting like think they're cool and know it all.
Those whom don't realise that range from 1 or all of the following; teenage angst, ignorance, bias, closed mindedness, favoritism, double standards to name but a few.
Roy is nowhere near as shot as ppl are conveniently making out, he'll challenge Joe on fronts Kelly simply cannot.
It's fine for others to not fight whom they want, but as soon as Joe even has a choice of opponents and chooses whom he said he would, citing it as the bigger challenge as many see it too, he's some kind of *****. He never ducked anyone lol, styles make fights ppl.Last edited by Kris Silver; 06-15-2008, 03:47 PM.

I'm not buying a 40 year old man as being the better fight. Only in financial terms is it going to be better. Joe is a good fighter no doubt. But he obviously doesn't think the fight with Pavlik would be as easy as his fans do. I don't blame him though. He's at the end of his career and fighting a guy nearly 10 years younger than you with power and skill is dangerous. Although this will take away from his legacy.
But why not fight Kessler's twin and get an easy win?
I think Enzo obviously wanted to see Kelly up close. And once he did he realized he was the real deal. Now we see a fight with Roy, that was called off a few months ago.

This fight has come too late for both fighters but am still looking forward to it. Roy Jones looks very good on any mans resume.

Most people don't seem to realise that Jones is not only the top boxer of the '90's but also of the first few years of the 2000's. If he hadn't been floored by that lucky Tarver "closed eyes" whack, he'd have gone on for another few years at the top of the list. Regardless of those who discard a guy over a few losses, he's the only "living legend" fighting today. And, although far past his breathtaking brilliant best, he's still good enough to give ANYONE real problems.
I agree with those who say that Jones is a far more difficult opponent than Pavlik. In fact, Jones could win, depending on which Jones shows up. His dazzling punching speed is still with him, and it's not beyond belief that a sudden, unseen right hand could floor Calzaghe. And I don't think Calzaghe could KO Jones.
And I disagree with those who say that Trinidad is washed-up. Trinidad looked good enough for the first half of his Jones fight. His real problem was that he was 10-15 lbs too heavy as well as ring-rust. His body punching was solid and top class.
Jones still basically toyed with him, allowing him to get off his punches, and very kindly let him off the hook a couple of times, when a KO seemed iminent.

I like Roy, I've known him for years, but he is a shadow of what he used to be, it happens to them all.
But honestly, Roy does stand a chance, not because Roy still has the handspeed, footwork, defense, or power or accuracy that he used to have.
It's because Calzaghe at his BEST was only HALF as good as Roy Jones Jr.!
In all honesty, if anything, Roy being only "HALF" as good as he used to be at this point, gives Calzaghe a chance to make it a decent fight.
If the fight went down 10 years ago, Roy Jones Jr. smokes Calzaghe with ease, it wouldn't make it to the 5th Round. Calzaghe fans are LUCKY Joe didn't fight Roy back then, because they would have been witness to just how weak Calzaghe truly is.
And they still might yet in this one....
