but calzaghe its a smart guy, i think he took the right decision for him, but still it sucks for the fans and for boxing.

Still i will sure as hell watch this fight and think it can be anoyones fight, of course the odds are on joe side, but it wont be an easy fight for anyone.

You can't blame the man for securing his retirement package. If he'd never made another dime in the ring, this fight would be enough for him to live in splendor for his remaining years.

Also, I don't think Pavlik is ready for Calzaghe. By the time he is, Calzaghe will be too old for Pavlik.

I don't want to descend to "name-calling" but if you insist, it puts me at a disadvantage. For 2 reasons, the first being that I don't have a modern every-day foul tongue, and the second being that, from the quality of your letters, you wouldn't understand that I was insulting you.

With your childish attitude I believe it to be useless even discussing it with you, so will not reply.
You sound like a pimple-faced kid who never boxed, whereas I have over 60 fights. Long ago, I admit, but in those days there were no headguards, and we had pro-like conditions.
Oh really? Care to point out where I insulted you? Or were you insulted because someone exposed you for speaking on fights or fighters you knowing nothing about? At least, nothing you've seen with your own two eyes?

Now that you've sidetracked me, can we return to the debate? The one your too embarrassed to discuss anymore?

Someone on this thread pointed out that Lou Del Valle was featherfisted yet able to drop Jones in the prime. Said person clearly knows little about Del Valle nor his fight with Jones.

      1. Del Valle was hardly feather-fisted. And he was a pretty good fighter. In his prime he stopped Eddy Smulders for the IBF LHW title (I know, who?). Before facing Jones, he had lost only ONCE - a tight decision to Virgil Hill in Hill's hometown. And this feather-fisted Del Valle was also the first person to DROP Hill.

      2. On fight night against Jones, the southpaw Del Valle weighed 192lbs.

      3. Finally, credit goes to Del Valle for knocking Roy down. He landed a solid left and a couple seconds later, Jones lost his footing and fell. Perhaps the soaked slippery canvas was the reason for the "delayed reaction" and why he slipped and fell forward, as it looked like to anyone who SAW THE FIGHT but it was correctly ruled a knockdown. Jones rose and continued the beatdown. And even when Larry Merchant asked Roy was it a slip as it looked to everyone else, Jones admitted that while he did slip, he got caught with a pretty good shot.

Nothing to be ashamed of. And no reason to take anything away from Del Valle who, in front of hometown fans, had lost every single second of the fight but would forever have a name for "dropping" the great Roy Jones.

Thank you for taking the time to tell me that you've
"watched every boxing show available to me for the past 50 years or more, and have probably 400 fights on tape, maybe more."
That's awesome. It'll come in handy when we discuss other fights. But we're discussing this one so perhaps you should add that to your collection before you speak on it.

My LAST word you ........oaf. I was supporting your position that De Valle was a good fighter. I wrote that he was not feather fisted having a KO record of about 65%. Goodbye. As for insults, read your letters again.
