Calzaghe against Dawson would be my dream fight. If he beats Dawson, then there is no arguement about his greatness and i would not complain about his resume anymore. I love to see those chess matches with two slick boxers.

I don't see Calzaghe/Jones being very competitive. Jones is past his prime and Calzaghe is too energetic and strong for him at this stage in his career. If he doesn't knock Jones out (which i think will happen) then he will just out work him and win by wide decision.

^^ Dawson is a really good up and coming fighter but he's not established enough yet to have that be a serious notch on Joe's record. Right now I think Joe beats him pretty clear, 116-112 UD, but if Joe fought for like, two more years, and if Dawson beats Tarver, rematches Johnson and beats him, maybe even beats Erdei, then fights Joe that'd be dope.

I want Calzaghe to close his career in this order: Roy, Pavlik, and maybe someone like a Dawson or Tarver down the line, depending how the situation at LHW looks.

I agree with you totally on this. Dawson would be a real, real fight, and also I feel sure that he will go on to great things in the division. I would love, and I mean love to see him against Kessler some day too.

I give Dawson a good chance against Joe, I think he is quicker in both hands and feet, but could he outdo Joe's defensive adjustments and relentless attack?

A wonderful fight in prospect that will sadly never happen.

Id like to see him fight Pavlik. But i think he will retire after winning a SD against Jones.

It's a ****** fight, but since roy has a weak chin does Calzaghe want to be another person to ko Roy... What ever this fights ******ed but Calzaghe is getting older and the two are about the same age but everyone can tell how past the prime roy jones jr is when he couldn't even knock out the smaller trinidad and the fact that trinidad easily won the first 3 rounds of there fight shows you how past it roy is... Calzaghe vs Jones Jr is a ****** fight, but I guess he doesn't have many options to choose from when he realizes pavliks camp is too much of a ***** to take on Calzaghe. Be funny if karma bites Pavliks camp in the ass and Pavlik get his ass whooped by lockett*not likely* but would be funny

I definitely agree, it would be a great fight. It would be a close fight, but i think that Dawson's straight accurate counter punching and offensive arsenal would give Calzaghe nightmares. It could go either way but I'm leaning towards a Dawson decision.

Unfortunately, you are right, this potential great fight will never happen. Calzaghe could close his career perfect if he was to fight Pavlik, Tarver or Jones. Calzaghe would beat all of them IMO. Since he just stated that he only wants one more fight, then a match up between him and Jones could be a pretty big draw, especially if this is Jones last fight as well.

Now Calzaghe has once again made a call for retirement after his next fight, scheduled to take place on November 15. [details]
Calzaghe should try and go out on a high note that's for sure. He doesn't need to beat either Jones or Pavlik for his legacy, but it would be a good thing if he can close the show with an impressive performance. If possible.
