Out of 4.8 million ppv boxing buys 3.5-3.7 cam from Floyd. No fighter hypes other people up ODL, Cotto, SRL, Tommy Hearns. They are all stars because they hype themselves up and get mainstream to by boxing fight, which brings other fighters, although they arent stars, to the general public. Without Floyd doing what he has done, tell me where boxing would be. tell me this what are Kelly P, ODL, Wlad, Pacman, and any other fighter doing to get mainstream fans interested in other fights? NOTHING. Come on dude with out Floyd boxing would be under UFC.
whether these "fans" KEEP watching the sport SOLEY depends on the EXCITEMENT of the fight that they watch!!! why is that so hard to understand!?! How did DLH keep fans interested? He fought the best and gave people their money's worth. Thats how. He went out there and he FOUGHT. You can hype a fight as much as you want, you can get people interested in a fight as much as you want, but if you go out there and preform like he did against Baldomir, like he did against DLH, hell maybe even like he did against Hatton, the people that paid to watch the fight will not even consider buying your next fight. In order to have a thriving repeat customer trend, your product has to continue to satisfy your customers.

You can claim it will be the best steak they will ever eat, but if it just ends up tasting like a microwavable dinner, you can bet they will never pay for a steak from you again.

When one says that, they obviously are implying the GENERAL SPORT of boxing and not just Floyd Mayweather. In order for a CASUAL MAINSTREAM fan to watch a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight, they have to be left with a sense of drama and excitement that the FIGHT itself creates. Floyd Mayweather's style just doesnt produce that and the fact that he isnt putting himself in the ring with opponents who would bring the absolute best out of him isnt helping either. So how would these fans think to themselves, "Damn, that was a hell of a fight, I guess Ima watch OTHER fights as well!"
He is a classic boxer and markets himself in the same way another pure classic boxer Ali did, only in a new age Hip-hop style fashion. Ali got his persona from a heel/bad guy wrestler named Gergeous George. That wrestler was popular but he used to make fans hate him.

Floyd got his persona from a combination of Ali and 50cent/ or anybody Gangsta Rap culture.

Fans don't pay to see these guys in great, exciting fights, they pay to see them lose or they pay because they become fans and like them for the way they are.

it doesnt work that way. Floyd is only in the business of promoting Floyd. He is not in the business of promoting Boxing. He said it himself, "we dont fight to prove to the fans who the best." That statement there speaks VOLUMES on what his agenda is. Floyd does not care about Boxing which everyone already knows since he himself has declared many times. He wants to make as much money as possible and bounce. Simple as that.
      Agreed.

How is that? He is appealing to the Hip Hop crowd. But when he is in th emain stream eye he conducts himself well. Look at DWTS and on Jimmy Kimmel.

That's a lot more that Floyd.
floyd throws only arm punches that's why he has decent stamina
          he's boring to watch anyway
calzaghe on the other hand, he ****s you in the ring.
popkins got ****d, you'll never see that kind of **** from FLoyd
Joe doesnt have 32 KOs he has 2 and 30 tkos , Floyd has 3 KOs so he wins by 1 lol , and the percentages of stoppages of both is nearly the same ,, to compare JC to Floyd is a joke if they were the same weight Floyd would take him apart .

That's like saying because Oscar DLH fights whomever he fights he is trying to get himself mainstream and **** the rest of boxing. Boxing being mainstream AT ALL is good business. Boxing in the news AT ALL is good business for the sport. Floyd's fights being mainstream AT ALL is good business. Contrary to your ill informed beliefs new fans DO come from his fights and they DO watch other bouts because of it.

so how exactly will that cause fans to start supporting other fighters?

That's not true. He is not a brawler/blood and guts fighter and everybody knows it and know it's out of question for him to figh out of his element.

Floyd convinved 350,000 fans to pay and watch him fight Baldomir. Tiger Woods reportedly left in between rounds but he came back for another Floyd fight.

That Warrior/blood and guts/ real exicting fights mentality is a lil boring. Floyd's future success in PPV depends on him appearing on mainstream shows getting his name out there........nothing more, nothing less.

They all hype themselves up. No one promotes ALL boxing. It's lie the NBA they promote MJ, Magic, Bird, Lebron, D Wade, etc. Why dont they hype up the last player on the bench? Because it's about promoting the stars. The NBA is a union and a league about teams. Boxing is about the individual.
lol very true its like people want mayweather to wear t shirts that say please watch boxing. he should hold rally's in downtown cites screaming please watch boxing lol boxing is not dead he does not need to promote the sport. There have been plenty of great fights this year already!!!! There is no such thing as a fighter that is out to promote the sport. the greatest of all times the sugar ray, ali, tyson, floyd, dlh, they all do things to promote themselves and make a name for themselves. These guys hold floyd to some ****** standards sometimes. It's not any one fighters responsbility to promote other fighters they promote theirselves.

because they thought he was gonna fight like he did against gatti and judah. why do you purposely ignore that?
