Oh BTW the lazy ditto was re nationality not claiming Fitz was Canadian of Jamaican parentage!

He beat the very best European World Champions such as Mikkel Kessler and Chris Eubank and was World Champion at Super-Middleweight for well over a decade.

Then he moved up a weight division and faced America's Pound-for-Pound best boxer (Mayweather was not boxing at this point) in Bernard Hopkins and beat him.

Don't forget, he also unified his division, which not many so-called great World Champions do these days.

We are only a tiny island so we should be proud that such a boxer hails from these shores.
Yes like Calzaghe and don't know why he seems to get such bad press in here. Wouldn't put him at the top of this poll though.

Guess it depends on your view re nationality personally I count him as a Kiwi but would be delighted to be convinced otherwise, love to claim him!
I could be wrong about when he emigrated; I have no doubt he was born and raised in Cornwall though.

No definitely a Cornishman I have been to his birthplace, but can't remember where it was for the life of me.

That description would fit him better! You forgot about the fact that Americans such as B-Hop and Winky Wright (for 170lbs, catch weight fights!) were for years avoided by him, and had to skiop through his not so clever division for big fights. yes he held the WBO version for ten years to hide away from the better fighters on each side of him. He took very little risk in his career and fought mainly second rate opponents. kessler was the only good fighter that was in his prime when Joe fought him. Hopkins was 43 and slowing down, but even then the decision was SPLIT and highly CONTROVERSIAL. Even the Reid fight was controversial! he fought the shell of RJJ and nmever mentioned Toney in his life because they would have knocked him out. If he fought any of the elite ten years before (he would have been in his prime too), then he would have lost for sure. He would have still been competitive, but he didn't want no risk in his portfolio. Don't mention Lacy who was unproven hyope job and even Joe said he was crap!

Even Eubanks who you mentioned was way past it (battered by Collins twice), and only took it on ten days notice but made him fight for his life! When probed about the Reid, Kessler and Hopkins fights he says he doesn't like rematches but that never stopped him fighting Mario Viet again! I'm not a Calslappy hater (even though I do find him boring) and won't say he wasn't good and didn't acheive something in his career but the fact that he avoided risks means he shouldn't be number one ahead of Lewis or even Hatton who at least dared to go into the Lion's Den. I will say he is top 5 and very good, but not number one and not a great

Some fighter, shame there is so little film of him. Can only think of the Corbett fight off hand?

Well, his excuses are funnier than Calzaghe's; I'll give you that.
