Yeah, and then he moved to Canada where he learned how to play American football and FINISHED growing up there! technically speaking, he is both, and when he talks you can tell he is very confused. That is why he now tries to identify more with Jamaica. He said in one interview that we call him a Canadian and they say he sounded British! Alss, after beating Tyson the same weekend as England beating World Cup fave's and bitter rivals Argentina, Lennox said 'big up the british football team' when asked about the glorious weekend for British sport by a journo! The correct answer is that he is confused, but definitely still a Brit as he turned pro here very young and spent alot of time here both as an child, adult and novice professional. canada's sovereign is still technically QE2 anyway

He was born in West Ham, fought for Canada in the Olympics and the first chance he got, he moved back to England. He's always said that he's British.

It's like Mischa Barton, she's British.

When asked in interviews if she feels English or American, she states she feels English.
This is going to be like the Froch debate? He's got Polish parents and suddenly he's not British?

Nah, he didn't box for Poland at the olympics and live there during formative years of his life. Neither did Eubanks, Benn, Naseem, Khan, Bruno etc. i think that is what the issue is with Lewis and I think he is a bit of both and can't be denied his right to a red passport! Btw, Gillian Anderson is British too and she looks fit when she hasn't got a ginger minge. Check out last king of scotland

I think it was the Duke of Wellington who said if a dog is born in a stable it doesn't make it a horse. I think Lewis would have found it easier moving up the HW ranks via England than Canada so probably did influence his decision. Also I might stand to be corrected but even when boxing as a Britain he spent little time in the country?

Im surprised no one has John Conteh in their lists. This guy was brilliant at his best and had great potential.Too bad his career was cut short due to alcoholism and constant partying.

I mentioned him! Big fan of Conteh but unfortunately as you pointed out he didn't keep focus, could well have topped this list if he had.

I think Joe Calzaghe is the greatest British boxer of all time. And I'm not just saying that because he was born in the same London hospital as myself!

He beat the very best European World Champions such as Mikkel Kessler and Chris Eubank and was World Champion at Super-Middleweight for well over a decade.

Then he moved up a weight division and faced America's Pound-for-Pound best boxer (Mayweather was not boxing at this point) in Bernard Hopkins and beat him.

Don't forget, he also unified his division, which not many so-called great World Champions do these days.

We are only a tiny island so we should be proud that such a boxer hails from these shores.

In answer to the question Ted Kid Lewis or Jimmy Wilde, honourable mention to Buchanan and if either Conteh or Benny Lynch had kept focased it would have
                  probably been them.
Actually Fitzsimmons was born in Cornwall and didn't migrate to Australia until he was an adult. Fitzsimmons tops this list for me.

"I have always been English, ever since I emigrated from England and since the kids in Canada beat me up at the age of twelve for having an East London ****ney accent. I thank them for the ****ney taunts because the beatings turned me on to boxing. But on a serious note Canada has been kind to me."

I must say I thought it was younger, had a quick google and I'm seeing he emigrated at 9although one of those sources is Wikipedia!
Guess it depends on your view re nationality personally I count him as a Kiwi but would be delighted to be convinced otherwise, love to claim him!
