Floyd was undisputed champion of the most prestigious divison in boxing(at least back then) He lost and rewon the undisputed title. I can't imagine the comparison between an abc titlest that has yet to past many tests and this legend beyond their ability to take a hard punch.

Well no doubt Bert is wrong here , but Ali wasn't trying to knock Floyd out...he wanted to keep him up and punish him throughout the 15 rounds. Him not getting knocked out in this case is not such a big deal you know.

Infact Floyd was suffering from back pain and was never 100%.He didn't think of quitting, speaks of his heart, but he might have been glad if Ali had actually knocked him out. Never mind still, Bert was way out of line here.

I admired Floyd's heart a lot.

He didn't go the distance with prime Ali. But I think his more than obvious back injury contributed to his stoppage loss as much as punches landed. A fully fit Patterson may well have gone the distance but also won a fair few rounds too......even in 1965.

But back on subject, being compared to Floyd Patterson is surely a great honour, despite the chin comparison. Floyd always tried to get up.....and often did! For as long as Khan is the same, that is all that matters.

Bert Sugar's line was fun, but that's all it was, just fun like the rest of his stories. There's rarely any truth or point to them. Obviously Khan is nothing like Patterson stylistically and he was taken out by a wild clubber at an early stage in his career while Patterson was only knocked out by two hard hitting heavyweights.
