Do you think you know more about the sport than him?

He may have followed boxing for a long time and have access to resources that most of us don't have but a lot of the things he writes are just silly.

I don't really care if he's seen JL fight live, just because he has followed the sport for a long time doesn't mean that he deserves respect at all. If he doesn't say anything that demands respect then he won't get any from me and saying that about Floyd isn't helping his reputation.

And before you say it no I don't think I know more about the sport then him, doesn't mean that I have to agree with what he says.

And I would point out that Sugar is NOT a boxing historian. He's a story teller and he never lets the facts get in the way of a good story. For years he's been perpetuating the myth that Pep won a round without throwing a punch.....a myth that's been disproven over and over again for DECADES. What Sugar is is an old-time (yellow) journalist who isn't really interested in the truth.....only in telling a good STORY.

Believe me, there are a lot of boxing historians not in the HOF who could bury Sugar in boxing knowledge. They just haven't hyped themselves into NY media cult like Sugar has. I'd bet anything on Cliff Rold over Bert Sugar in a meaningful debate of boxing history. Probably some other posters in this forum as well.

Henry Hascup has mentioned being in debates with Sugar as well and getting the better of him.

I find it weird how Sugar has access to so much boxing resources /knowledge but at times it's like he hardly uses any of it or just dismisses certain things to go with whatever he thinks no matter how silly it is.

Sugar is strictly a media whore who uses fiction and tired jokes to get him over. He is a very intelligent man, but he's been mailing it in for years.
