He was grossly overrated for so long by demented Stan-bois that it caused a predictable backlash. Now he’s criminally underrated. I think I have him in realistic perspective. FWIW Tyson is the one fighter I’d like to sit down with and break down old fight films.
I think most of us would. The man has seen as much film on past fighters as anyone alive, if not more.

And he’s enthusiastic about doing it. He LOVES watching old film.

Tubby Lar refused to fight the WBA champs, so clearly he won't fight Tyson who could mop up all the WBA champs of that era inside a month...duh...

Bonecrusher clutched and grabbed the whole fight and lost a lopsided decision. That why everybody derisively started calling him “Boneclutcher”

Larry Holmes had the best left jab in the business AND don't forget he fought the 15 rounders.. I'm not a Holmes fan but I am a boxing fan. Larry would beat Mike if they were in their prime

yes just like the title of the thread tyson's smartest opponent.
would they have any other option around 86- 89 tyson was perhaps the greatest in these years. smith used his smarts to go the distance. smart i make him.

I mentioned Smith earlier, but for his strength not his intelligence.

No doubt his tactic was smart, but it was ugly. We tend not to praise things that look ugly even if they are smart.

Smith, said himself, in the post fight interview, 'I did what I had to do,' challengeling the announcer to offer a better solution to his dilemma.

But since the tactic offered no possibility of victory, one can say it was not smart.

If it offers you no chance of winning, it's not "smart". If you're too f* cking scared to try to win the fight, don't take the fight to begin with.
