The Most Enjoyable Boxing Evening Ever ... ?

It’s not just about the main event, but also the quality of the undercard bouts.

I nicked this question from another forum. The suggestions from its members
were only from the last decade. It can’t be true, for sure …

I guess you have to dig deep into boxrec to find the right answers.

Bad question. Different for everyone and has nothing to do with boxing history.

      Disagree!

Far from the best events, but one that I remember very well.
For the wrong reasons Montreal, June 20, 1980.

Roberto Duran decisioned Sugar Ray Leonard for the welterweight title.

Former WBA heavy champ Big John Tate made his comeback after losing

his title. The pick of ‘easy’ opponent, however, got terrible wrong:
Trevor Berbick (14-1-1) got his breakthrough by a vicious 9th-round KO victory.

Roger Leonard, brother of Ray, went 13-0 by beating durable veteran

Clyde Gray (68-9-1). You believed Roger had a future …

The big discussion the day after was Duran’s victory.
But as the days elapsed, the Gaetan Hart–Cleveland Denny bout came into focus.
Denny, losing on a 10th round kayo, was in coma for two weeks before declared dead.

And voices to ban professional boxing gained strength in various media.

I am not sure if this is an assessment of great night's of boxing or personal experiences.

Personal experience wise I got pulled from the crowd by a buddy of mine who worked for the commission - I spent the night sitting on the apron holding open the ropes for the ring card girls. Matthew Saad Muhammad - Uriah Grant.

          - -Generally not an undercard guy unless it's really great matchup, but Foreman/Field took place on my wedding anniversary, so I arranged well in advance a touted comedy at the movie theater followed by a restaurant of her liking early in the evening where upon we came home for desert.

This during the Saving and Loan crises where we in the same economic boat as the rest of Texas could do no more, so as her sister came over I innocently ask if it would be OK to check in with my bro. Checking in, we immediately walk a few houses down to his best friend throwing a fight party on the picturesque creek he lived on where upon we put in our share for the beer, snacks, and PPV, maybe 3-4 dozen of their friends and such. Pat probably cleared a well deserved couple hundred bucks, but it was a great back and forth fight most of us thought Foreman won because Field was hanging on for dear life in the championship rounds. Didn't take away that we had a great fight and great time, but then I return home to find my wife mad because she called my bro and his wife told her where we were.

Another ravishment quickly solved that dilemma in a thoroughly enjoyable wedding anniversary with a great fight in the middle of hard times.

Since when is reality a requirement on the forum?

You're just jealous- the girls from the local tity bar each gave me a kiss as I helped them down. You remember those days, when people still touched each other.

It was the end if Saad's career and the beginning of Grant's (non) career. No TV and until the Miami Herald puts its archive online probably no pics.

My best friend watched Fury-Wilder 1 with me. He was my dude but he wasn't about combat sports. I had talked him into it and man oh did he love that fight. Loads of folks said it was boring but not to Drew, that was the best thing he could have seen.

He took his life in 2019. Probably connected with Fury more than I had expected. Still, good memory, good times.

I am trying to be legit with my answer, but everything I think about becomes more of a personal story then the actual card itself.

The time in HS when my buddies dad was head of security at a casino that had a decent sized card and we got to meet all the fighters and hang out in the ring.
When I was in college and I found a new bar with no cover for a big PPV, only to find this bar was attached to a gentleman's club, and serving as a cover as a brothel. I wouldnt partake in such things, but it was still crazy shocking and very memorable.
Or when my wife and I were just dating, and she in her roomates got a PPV for a big fight, and got all costumed out for the fight.
